Rear Side Airbag, Turning Off

- Vehicle Diagnostic Tester
Procedure
- Follow all Safety Precautions when working with pyrotechnic components. Refer to SAFETY PRECAUTIONS .
- Follow the additional safety precautions when working with the side airbag. Refer to SIDE AIRBAG ADDITIONAL SAFETY PRECAUTIONS .
-- Turn on the ignition.
-- Disconnect the battery ground cable with the ignition turned on. Refer to BATTERY, DISCONNECTING AND CONNECTING .
-- Remove the bench seat. Refer to SEAT BENCH/SINGLE SEAT, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
Before handling pyrotechnic components (for example, disconnecting the connector), the person handling it must "discharge static electricity". This can be done by touching the door striker, for example.
Rear left and right side airbags can we switched off individually.
There is a connector under the seat bench on the left and right side.
-- Disconnect the rear side airbag connector.
-- Push connector lock -2- to stop -arrow- ; this disconnects electrical connection -1- and -3- and it can be removed.
-- Install the seat bench. Refer to SEAT BENCH/SINGLE SEAT, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
Ignition must be on when connecting battery. If pyrotechnic components (for example, airbag, belt tensioner) are not repaired correctly, they may deploy unintentionally after connecting battery. There must not be anyone inside the vehicle when connecting the battery.
-- Connect the battery ground cable with the ignition turned on. Refer to BATTERY, DISCONNECTING AND CONNECTING .
-- Perform the deactivation programs in "Guided Functions" for the rear side airbags. Refer to Vehicle Diagnostic Tester. The respective adaptation program must be carried out.
-- Fill out the registration card and send it to the responsible distributor or importer. Affix page 3 of the registration card in the vehicle wallet.
-- Place a sticker for deactivated side airbags on the rear door frame. Refer to DEACTIVATED REAR SIDE AIRBAG LABEL .
If the Airbag Indicator Lamp -K75- indicates a fault, check the DTC memory, erase it and check it again. Refer to Vehicle Diagnostic Tester.
