Overview - Camshaft Timing Chains

Left Camshaft Timing Chain

  1. Bolt
    • 80 Nm +90° turn
    • Replace
  2. Bolt
    • 80 Nm +90° turn
    • Replace
  3. Camshaft Chain Sprocket for the Exhaust Camshaft
  4. Camshaft Adjuster for Intake Camshaft
    • Identification "Intake"
    • Removing and installing. Refer to CAMSHAFT TIMING CHAIN, REMOVING FROM CAMSHAFTS .
      NOTE:

      Depending on the version the camshaft adjuster has three or four notches. The illustration shows a camshaft adjuster with four notches.

  5. Left Camshaft Timing Chain
  6. Bolt
    • 9 Nm
  7. Glide
  8. Left Camshaft Timing Chain Tensioner
  9. Drive Chain Sprocket Bearing Plate
  10. Bolt
    • 8 Nm +45° turn
    • Replace
  11. Left Camshaft Timing Chain Drive Sprocket
  12. Mounting Pin for the Drive Chain Sprocket
    • For the left camshaft control chain
  13. Bolts
    • Tightening specification

      Refer to "OVERVIEW - TIMING MECHANISM DRIVE CHAIN" -item  3- Bolt (See Figure).

Right Camshaft Timing Chain

  1. Bolt
    • 80 Nm +90° turn
    • Replace
  2. Camshaft Chain Sprocket for the Exhaust Camshaft
  3. Bolt
    • 80 Nm +90° turn
    • Replace
  4. Camshaft Adjuster for Intake Camshaft
    • Identification "Intake"
    • Removing and installing. Refer to CAMSHAFT TIMING CHAIN, REMOVING FROM CAMSHAFTS .
      NOTE:

      Depending on the version the camshaft adjuster has three or four notches. The illustration shows a camshaft adjuster with four notches.

  5. Bolt
    • Tightening specification

      Refer to "OVERVIEW - TIMING MECHANISM DRIVE CHAIN" -item  15- Bolt (See Figure).

  6. Mounting Pin for the Drive Chain Sprocket
    • For the right camshaft timing chain
    • Asymmetrical version
    • Installed position. Refer to Figure
  7. Right Camshaft Timing Chain Drive Sprocket
    • Installed position. Refer to Figure
  8. Right Camshaft Timing Chain
  9. Drive Chain Sprocket Thrust Washer
    • For the right camshaft timing chain
    • Asymmetrical version
    • Installed position. Refer to Figure
  10. Right Camshaft Timing Chain Tensioner
  11. Glide
  12. Bolt
    • 9 Nm
