Transmission Oil Pump

Removing

CAUTION:

Risk of transmission damage.

Do not run engine or tow vehicle with oil pan removed or without transmission fluid.

NOTE:

Observe cleanliness rules when working on transmissions, refer to CLEAN WORKING CONDITIONS .

General repair instructions, refer to REPAIR INFORMATION .

-- Drain gear oil and leave V.A.G 1782 below. Refer to TRANSMISSION FLUID, REPLACING OR FILLING AFTER REPAIR .

-- Remove the left front wheel spoiler. Refer to Removal and Installation .

-- Remove the bolts -arrows- and remove the transmission fluid pump cover -A- while letting the gear oil remaining in the cover drain into V.A.G 1782.

-- Remove bolts -arrows- and remove transmission oil pump -1-.

Installing

Install in reverse order, paying attention to the following:

For the correct tightening specifications, refer to Figure.

NOTE:

Replace transmission oil pump bolts and pump cover bolts.

Replace seal -B- and transmission oil pump cover.

-- Check whether alignment pins -C- are inserted in transmission housing.

-- Slide transmission oil pump input shaft -A- into transmission as far as stop by turning shaft slightly.

If the transmission oil pump input shaft -A- is inserted correctly, dimension -a- = approximately 23 mm.

-- If there are metal shavings on the sensor wheel -B-, remove shavings, but sensor wheel must not be demagnetized.

-- Remove paper seal between transmission oil pump and transmission.

-- Remove the rest of the paper seal and clean inside of transmission.

-- Clean sealing surfaces; they must be free from oil or grease.

-- Insert new paper seal between transmission oil pump and transmission, secure with gear oil if necessary.

-- Place transmission oil pump -1- on the input shaft and tighten. Refer to Figure.

-- Clean transmission oil pump cover sealing surface on transmission housing.

-- Position transmission oil pump cover -A- and tighten. Refer to Figure.

-- Fill transmission with oil. Refer to TRANSMISSION FLUID, REPLACING OR FILLING AFTER REPAIR and check oil level TRANSMISSION FLUID, REPLACING OR FILLING AFTER REPAIR .
