Left Timing Chain Cover, Removing And Installing: Installing

NOTE: Replace the O-rings.

-- Remove any old sealant from the surfaces.

CAUTION:

Risk of contaminating the lubricating system.

  • Cover open parts of engine.

WARNING:

Danger of eye injury.

  • Wear protective eyewear.

-- Remove the sealant residue on the timing chain cover -1- and cylinder head using a rotating plastic brush, for example.

-- Clean any oil or grease off the sealing surfaces.

NOTE: Note the expiration date of the sealing compound.

-- Cut the tube nozzle at the front marking (nozzle diameter: about 2 mm (0.078 in.)).

-- Remove the intermediate pipe -2- from the left timing chain guard with the needle bearing drift.

-- Install the O-rings -1- in the intermediate pipe.

-- Insert the intermediate pipe into the left timing chain cover.

CAUTION:

The lubrication system could be plugged with excess sealant.

  • Do not apply sealant bead thicker than indicated.
NOTE: The timing chain cover must be installed within 5 minutes after applying the sealant

-- Apply a sealant bead -arrow- to the clean sealing surfaces of the left timing chain cover as shown.

-- Install the left timing chain cover with the bracket -arrow- and tighten the bolts, refer to Figure.

NOTE: For specific engines there is a double bolt at -1-.

The rest of the installation is performed in reverse order of removal, noting the following:

-- Install the upper rear coolant pipe, refer to OVERVIEW - COOLANT PIPES .

-- Install the plenum chamber bulkhead, refer to OVERVIEW - BULKHEAD .

-- Install the catalytic converter and the front muffler, refer to OVERVIEW - MUFFLER .

-- Install the air guides with the screw-type clamps, refer to OVERVIEW - CHARGE AIR HOSE CONNECTIONS .

NOTE: Do not reuse used coolant.

-- Fill with coolant, refer to COOLANT, DRAINING AND FILLING .
