Compression Pressure, Checking
Special tools and workshop equipment required
- Hinged Socket 3220
- Compression Tester V.A.G 1763 with Adapter V.A.G 1763/8
- Torque wrench 5-50 Nm V.A.G 1331
Test Conditions
- Engine oil temperature: minimum 30° C (86° F)
Test sequence
-- Remove the engine cover. Refer to ENGINE COVER .
-- Disconnect the connectors on the fuel injectors.
-- Remove the glow plug with the jointed socket 3220. Refer to GLOW PLUG .
-- Install Adapter V.A.G 1763/8 in place of the glow plugs.
-- Check compression pressure using the Compression Tester V.A.G 1763.
Using tester operating instructions.
-- Operate the starter until the tester no longer indicates that the pressure is increasing.
Compression pressure:
New: 25-31 bar (363-450 psi) overpressure
Wear limit: 19 bar (276 psi) overpressure
Permissible difference between all cylinders: 5 bar (73 psi)
-- Install the glow plug with the jointed socket 3220. refer to GLOW PLUG .
-- Check the engine control module DTC memory. Refer to Vehicle Diagnostic Tester.
By disconnecting the fuel injector connectors, faults will be stored in the DTC memory. Query the fault memory and erase, if necessary.
