Turbocharger Vacuum Diaphragm, Checking

Special tools and workshop equipment required

Hand Vacuum Pump VAS 6213

Test Conditions:

Hose from exhaust turbocharger over wastegate bypass regulator valve -N75- must have continuity to vacuum diaphragm.
Wastegate bypass regulator valve OK.

Procedure:

-- Disconnect electrical connector on mass airflow (MAF) sensor -G70- -3-.

-- Open clips -1 and 2- and remove air guide hose from MAF sensor.

-- Remove front air intake connector on lock carrier -4-.

-- Remove engine cover.

-- Connect the VAS 6213 to vacuum diaphragm -arrow-.

-- Set the slide ring -1- on VAS 6213 to position -B- for "pressure".

CAUTION:

The pressure must not exceed 750 mbar. If the pressure is exceeded, the vacuum diaphragm can be damaged.

-- Operate the VAS 6213 several times and observe rods.

The linkage -A- must move approximately 300 mbar and be at approximately 700 mbar at end position.

Actuator lift is approximately 10 mm.

NOTE:

If pressure cannot be raised with the VAS 6213 or pressure drops immediately, check the VAS 6213 and connecting hoses for leaks. If no malfunction can be found: Replace vacuum diaphragm, refer to TURBOCHARGER VACUUM DIAPHRAGM .
