Upper Timing Chain Cover

Special tools and workshop equipment required

Removing

-- Release the Evaporative Emission (EVAP) canister -B arrow-, remove it upward -A arrow- and lay it aside.

-- Remove the coolant reservoir and move it to the side.

-- Disconnect the connector from the camshaft adjustment valve 1 -N205- -1-.

-- Remove the bolts -arrows- and then the camshaft adjustment valve 1.

-- Pull the oil dipstick slightly upward.

-- Remove the bolts -1 through 5- and the timing chain guard upper section.

Installing

Installation is carried out in the reverse order while noting the following:

NOTE:

Replace the O-ring.

-- Coat the seal and the O-ring with engine oil.

-- Install the upper timing chain cover with the V.A.G 1783 and V.A.G 1783/1, tightening sequence. Refer to Figure.

-- Install the camshaft adjustment valve 1. Refer to Camshaft Adjustment Valve 1 -N205- .
