Wheel Bearing Unit
Special tools and workshop equipment required
- Torque wrench V.A.G 1332
- Torque wrench V.A.G 1410
Removing
-- Measure dimension from center of wheel to lower edge of wheel housing. Refer to WHEEL BEARING, LIFTING TO CURB WEIGHT POSITION .
-- Remove coil spring. Refer to COIL SPRING .
-- Remove drive axle. Refer to DRIVE AXLE .
-- Remove brake caliper/brake carrier and suspend from body with wire. Refer to Removal and Installation .
Do not allow brake caliper to hang from brake line.
-- Remove the bolt and then remove the brake disc.
-- Remove bolts -2-.
-- Remove wheel bearing unit from wheel bearing housing.
Installing
Installation is the reverse of removal, with special attention to the following:
Tightening specifications, refer to SUBFRAME, LOWER TRANSVERSE LINK, UPPER TRANSVERSE LINK, TIE ROD AND LEVEL CONTROL SYSTEM SENSOR ASSEMBLY OVERVIEW, COUPE .
Tightening specifications, refer to SUBFRAME, DIAGONAL BRACES, CROSSMEMBER, LOWER TRANSVERSE LINK, UPPER TRANSVERSE LINK, TIE ROD AND LEVEL CONTROL SYSTEM SENSOR ASSEMBLY OVERVIEW, ROADSTER .
Tightening specifications, refer to WHEEL BEARING HOUSING, WHEEL BEARING UNIT AND TRAILING ARM WITH MOUNTING BRACKET ASSEMBLY OVERVIEW .
Tightening specifications, refer to SHOCK ABSORBER AND COIL SPRING ASSEMBLY OVERVIEW .
Tightening specifications, refer to STABILIZER BAR ASSEMBLY OVERVIEW .
-- Tighten the new bolt.
- First tighten the bolt to the given torque specification using the torque wrench.
- Use solid wrench for additional torque angle.
