Clutch Mechanism, Bleeding

Special tools and workshop equipment required

Brake Charger/Bleeder Unit VAS5234
Brake fluid specifications. Only use new brake fluid conforming to US-Norm FMVSS 116 DOT 4 (Do not use any silicone-based fluid). For additional information, refer to BRAKE FLUID GENERAL INFORMATION .

Procedure

NOTE:

Bleed the system after working on the hydraulic clutch mechanism.

Make sure no brake fluid gets on the transmission when performing the following work.

Before bleeding, you must bring clutch pedal back to rest position and fill the brake fluid reservoir to "max" mark with brake fluid.

First open bleeder screw, before switching on brake filler/bleeder unit.

Change the fluid for the clutch system at the same interval when changing the brake fluid for the brake system. Refer to appropriate FLUID CAPACITY TABLE information.

-- Connect the Brake Charger/Bleeder Unit VAS5234 (See Fig 1), but do not turn on yet.

-- If equipped remove the rear noise insulation -2-. Refer to NOISE INSULATION .

-- Connect the bleeder hose -A- to the clutch slave cylinder and open the bleeder screw -arrow-.

-- Connect the bleeder hose with collector bottle vacuum hose.

-- Switch on the brake filler/bleeder unit and bleed approximately 100 cm³ of brake fluid.

Working pressure 2.0 bar (29 psi).

NOTE:

Make sure the bleeder hose fits correctly.

-- Close the bleed screw. Tightening specification, refer to -item 2- Bleed Screw.

-- Press the clutch pedal a few times after bleeding the system.

-- Bleed the system again if necessary.

-- Install the noise insulation. Refer to NOISE INSULATION .
