Fuel Level Sensor -G-, CHECKING
Special tools and workshop equipment required
- Multimeter VAG 1526D
- Connector Test Set VAG 1594C
Procedure
-- Remove right seat frame in 2nd row. Refer to SECOND ROW, 2 PASSENGER OVERVIEW .
Risk of injury.
- Wear safety gloves.
-- Cut the floor covering along the perforation -arrows- on the right side with a carpet knife -1-.
-- Fold the floor covering to the side in the -direction of arrow-.
-- Remove nuts -1 to 4- and remove the right locking flange cover.
-- Disconnect electrical harness connector -arrow- at the right locking flange.
-- Connect multimeter between terminals -2 and 3- to measure resistance.
Fuel Level Sensor -G- installed:
- Sensor at lower stop: 863 to 960 Ω.
- Sensor at upper stop: 67 to 86 Ω.
If measured value is 0 Ω there is a short circuit. If measured value is ∞ there is and open circuit in the wiring.
To check resistance values "tank full" or "tank empty", the fuel level sensor must be removed and the floater of the sensor must be placed in upper or lower end position. Refer to Fuel Level Sensor -G- .
With fuel level sensor removed, the following values are obtained because of the greater deflection of the floater arm:
With the Fuel Level Sensor -G- removed:
- Sensor at lower stop: Approximately 990 Ω.
- Sensor at upper stop: Approximately 51 Ω.
Assemble in reverse order of disassembling. Note the following:
-- Install locking flange cover.
-- Install the frame into the floor covering. Refer to FRONT FLOOR COVERING, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Install right seat frame in 2nd row. Refer to SECOND ROW, 2 PASSENGER OVERVIEW .
