Rear Side Airbag Deactivation: Deactivating

Vehicle Diagnostic Tester

WARNING:

Follow all Safety Precautions when working with pyrotechnic components. Refer to PYROTECHNIC, ELECTRICAL AND MECHANICAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM COMPONENTS, SAFETY PRECAUTIONS AND TESTING PROCEDURES .
Follow the additional safety precautions when working with the side airbag. Refer to SIDE AIRBAG ADDITIONAL SAFETY PRECAUTIONS .

-- Turn on the ignition.

-- Disconnect the ground cable from the battery with the ignition on. Refer to BATTERY, DISCONNECTING AND CONNECTING .

-- Remove left or right 2nd row seat cushion.

Seat beach (two-thirds bench). Refer to BENCH SEAT CUSHION, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
Individual seat. Refer to SEAT CUSHION, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

WARNING:

Before handling airbag units (for example, disconnecting electrical connector), the person handling it must "discharge static electricity". This can be done by touching the door striker, for example.

NOTE:

Left and right side airbags can we switched off individually.

One connection each is found at left and right below 2nd row bench seat.

-- Press catch -2- and disconnect connector -1- in direction of -arrow-.

-- Install the left or right 2nd row seat cushion.

Seat beach (two-thirds bench). Refer to BENCH SEAT CUSHION, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
Individual seat. Refer to SEAT CUSHION, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

WARNING:

Ignition must be on when connecting battery. If pyrotechnic components (for example, airbag, belt tensioner) are not repaired correctly, they may deploy unintentionally after connecting battery. Maintain personal safety when connecting the battery by staying out of airbag deployment areas, keeping a distance from belt tensioners/seat belts and ensuring no other people are in the vehicle interior at the moment when the battery is connected.

-- Switch on ignition.

-- Turn on the ignition and connect the battery ground cable. Refer to BATTERY, DISCONNECTING AND CONNECTING .

-- Carry out the programs in "Guided Functions" to deactivate the rear thorax airbags using the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester. The respective adaptation program must be carried out.

-- Fill out the registration card and send it to the responsible distributor or importer. Affix page 3 of the registration card in the vehicle wallet.

-- Affix sticker for deactivated side airbags on front door frame. Refer to DEACTIVATED REAR SIDE AIRBAG LABEL .

-- If the Airbag Indicator Lamp -K75- indicates a fault, check the DTC memory, erase it and check it again using the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester.
