Driver Airbag Igniter -N95- AND Driver Airbag Igniter 2 -N250-, REMOVING AND INSTALLING: Removing
-- Position the steering wheel so that it is as far rearward and up as possible, using the full adjustment range of the steering column adjuster.
Follow all Safety Precautions when working with pyrotechnic components. Refer to PYROTECHNIC, ELECTRICAL AND MECHANICAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM COMPONENTS, SAFETY PRECAUTIONS AND TESTING PROCEDURES .
-- Turn on the ignition.
-- Disconnect the ground cable from the battery with the ignition on. Refer to BATTERY, DISCONNECTING AND CONNECTING .
-- Remove cover cap -1- left and right from backside of steering wheel -arrow-.
-- Remove screw -arrow- at left and right on back side of steering wheel.
-- Bring steering wheel to center position (wheels straight).
Before handling airbag units (for example, disconnecting electrical connector), the person handling it must "discharge static electricity". This can be done by touching the door striker, for example.
-- Pull the driver airbag unit from the steering wheel a bit.
-- Push connector lock -4- to stop -arrow- ; this disconnects electrical connection -2- and it can be removed.
-- Remove airbag unit -1- from the steering wheel.
-- If applicable, disconnect electrical connection -3-.
-- Set the airbag unit down so that the padding faces upward.
