Driver Airbag Igniter -N95-, REMOVING AND INSTALLING: Installing
- Follow all Safety Precautions when working with pyrotechnic components. Refer to PYROTECHNIC, ELECTRICAL AND MECHANICAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM COMPONENTS, SAFETY PRECAUTIONS AND TESTING PROCEDURES .
- Before handling pyrotechnic components (for example, connecting the electrical connector), the person handling it must "discharge static electricity". This can be done by touching the door striker, for example.
Install in reverse order of removal. Note the following:
Make sure the connectors are installed correctly and are secure.
Make sure the wires do not get caught.
-- Connect the spiral spring electrical connector with the airbag connector coupling on the coil connector with slip ring.
-- Press in harness connector to secure in the pockets on the steering wheel.
-- Position driver airbag in the steering wheel and press on it until it audibly engages.
Ignition must be on when connecting battery. If pyrotechnic components (for example, airbag, belt tensioner) are not repaired correctly, they may deploy unintentionally after connecting battery. There must not be anyone inside the vehicle when connecting the battery.
-- Turn on the ignition and connect the battery ground cable. Refer to BATTERY, DISCONNECTING AND CONNECTING .
-- Check and erase the airbag control module DTC memory so that faults can be stored when the connectors are disconnected using the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester.
