Compression Pressure, Checking

Special tools and workshop equipment required 

• Spark Plug Removal Tool3122B
• Compression Tester KitVAG1763

Procedure

Proceed as follows:

• Engine oil temperature at least 30 °C.
• Battery voltage at least 12.5 V.

-- Turn off the ignition.

-- Disconnect electrical connector -arrow- for Engine Speed Sensor -G28-.

-- Remove the ignition coils, refer to IGNITION COILS .

-- Remove spark plugs with Spark Plug Removal Tool3122B.

-- Check compression pressure with Compression Tester KitVAG1763, refer to Operating instructions.

-- Have a second person completely depress gas pedal and operate starter long enough until tester no longer indicates increase in pressure.

-- Repeat procedure on each cylinder.

Assemble in reverse order of disassembling. Note the following:

-- Install spark plugs, refer to Maintenance Booklet #406.

-- Install the ignition coil, refer to IGNITION COILS .

If connectors and fuse were removed, malfunctions are saved in engine control module (ECM).

-- Connect Vehicle Diagnostic Tester.

-- Start "Guided Functions" operating mode.

-- Generate readiness code in ECM.
