Valve Timing Adjustment, Checking

Special tools and workshop equipment required 

• Camshaft BarT10068A

Procedure

Proceed as follows:

-- Remove the intake manifold, refer to INTAKE MANIFOLD .

-- Remove the cylinder head cover, refer to CYLINDER HEAD COVER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Adjust crankshaft at vibration damper screw in direction of engine rotation to "TDC" marking.

• The markings on the vibration damper and sealing flange must align -arrow-.

• Camshaft BarT10068 A must engage in grooves on both camshafts at the same time.

NOTE:

Due to the camshaft adjuster function, the camshaft grooves may not be perfectly horizontal. If necessary, turn the camshaft back and forth -arrows- slightly with an open end wrench in order to insert the Camshaft BarT10068A.

If the Camshaft BarT10068 A does not engage, rotate the crankshaft 1 rotation further in direction of engine rotation.

-- Camshaft position, checking:

• The "arrow" -item 1- on the intake camshaft adjuster must align with the notch -2- on the far right of the control housing.

• Marking -1- on camshaft adjuster which the "arrow" points to must align with notch -2- at far right on control housing.
