Timing Chain Guard Upper Section, Removing And Installing: Installing

-- Remove the old sealant from the sealing surfaces on the timing chain cover.

CAUTION:

Risk of contaminating the lubricating system.

  • Cover open parts of engine.

WARNING:

Danger of eye injury.

  • Wear protective eyewear.

-- Remove any remaining sealant on the timing chain cover and cylinder head using, for example, a rotating plastic brush.

-- Clean the sealing surfaces; they must be free of oil and grease.

NOTE:

Pay attention to the expiration date of the sealant.

-- Cut the tube nozzle at the front marking (nozzle diameter: about 1.5 mm).

-- Install the seal -1-.

-- Apply a small amount of sealant to the transitions between the cylinder head and the timing chain guard lower section -arrow- as shown in the illustration.

CAUTION:

The lubrication system could be plugged with excess sealant.

  • Do not apply sealant bead thicker than indicated.

-- Apply sealant beads -1 and 2- to the clean sealing surface of the left timing chain cover as shown in the illustration.

-- Apply sealant beads -1 and 2- to the clean sealing surface of the right timing chain cover as shown in the illustration.

NOTE:

The timing chain cover must be installed within 5 minutes after applying the sealant.

-- Position the timing chain cover and tighten the bolts. Refer to Figure.

The rest of the installation is performed in reverse order of removal, noting the following:

Upper Left Timing Chain Guard Section

-- Install the left cylinder head cover. Refer to LEFT CYLINDER HEAD COVER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

Upper Right Timing Chain Guard

-- Install the air guide pipe. Refer to OVERVIEW - AIR GUIDE PIPES AND AIR GUIDE HOSES .

-- Install the right cylinder head cover. Refer to RIGHT CYLINDER HEAD COVER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
