Right Primary Catalytic Converter: Removing

-- On a vehicle with air suspension, activate vehicle lift mode. Refer to VEHICLE LIFT MODE .

NOTE:

All cable ties opened or cut during engine removal must be reinstalled at the same locations during installation.

-- Pull rear engine cover off -arrows-.

-- Pull front engine cover off -arrows-.

-- Disconnect electrical connector -2- at Mass Airflow (MAF) sensor 2 -G246-.

-- Remove left air guide hose -1- from air duct.

-- Release retaining clips -3- and remove upper left section of air filter housing.

-- Disconnect hose -1- to Secondary Air Injection (AIR) pump.

-- Disconnect electrical harness connector -4- at MAF sensor -G70-.

-- Remove right air guide hose -3- from air duct.

-- Release retaining clips -2- and remove upper right section of air filter housing from lower part.

Vehicles with air suspension:

NOTE:

If necessary, remove electrical connector for Heated Oxygen Sensor (HO2S) 2 -G108- from bracket at right strut tower for better access.

-- Press circlip -1- forward from hose coupling.

-- Press release ring -2- down -arrows- and remove vent hose -3- from upper section of air filter.

All Vehicles

-- Disconnect vacuum hose -2- to Evaporative Emission (EVAP) canister purge regulator valve 1 -N80- by pressing release button.

-- Free up vacuum hose.

NOTE:

Ignore -1- and -3-.

-- Disconnect electrical harness connector -2- from EVAP canister purge regulator valve 1 --.

-- Remove EVAP canister purge regulator valve 1 -- -1- from bracket and lay aside.

NOTE:

Ignore -3-.

-- Disconnect the vacuum hose -4-.

CAUTION:

Risk of violating emissions legislation.

  • Do not open hose connection -2- !

-- Lay the air guide hose aside with the vacuum hose connected.

-- Loosen hose clamp -1- and remove bolts -3-.

-- Remove air guide pipe to right.

-- Remove electrical connectors -1- for Heated Oxygen Sensor (HO2S) -G39- and -2- for Oxygen Sensor (O2S) after Three Way Catalytic Converter (TWC) -G130- from bracket on right strut tower.

-- Disconnect electrical connections and free up electrical wiring to Heated Oxygen Sensor (HO2S) -G39- and O2S) after TWC -G130-.

-- Remove right front wheel.

-- Remove screws and remove front -1- and rear -2- noise insulation.

-- Remove bracket for noise insulation -arrows-.

CAUTION:

Danger of damaging the decoupling element.

  • Decoupling element must not be bent more than 10°.
  • Do not load decoupling element on cable.
  • Do not damage wire mesh at decoupling element.

-- Separate exhaust system at clamping sleeve -2-.

NOTE:

Ignore -1-.

-- Remove right main catalytic converter bracket bolts -1- and -2-.

-- Remove nuts -arrows- and remove right main catalytic converter.

-- Remove front driveshaft heat shield -arrows-.

-- Remove bolt -arrow- at right primary catalytic converter strap.

-- Remove nuts -1 to 3- and remove right primary catalytic converter.
