ATF Lines With Union Nuts For ATF Cooler With Clamping Connections

NOTE:

The ATF lines are attached to the ATF either with union nuts or clamping connections depending on the date of manufacture.

In the future, only ATF coolers with clamping connections for the ATF Lines can be ordered. The union nut must be removed (refitted) when connecting an ATF pipe with a union nut to the cooler with a clamping connection.

Special tools and workshop equipment required 

Procedure

To connect an ATF pipe with a union nut to a cooler with a clamping connection:

-- Remove the ATF lines from/to the ATF cooler up to the thermostat. Refer to ATF LINES AND ATF COOLER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Tape off the ATF pipe twice with electrical tape -arrow- as illustrated and seal off with plugs from the Engine Bung SetVAS6122.

-- Position the union nut -arrow- in the center on the ATF pipe taped off with electrical tape.

-- Secure the union nut -arrow- in a vise.

CAUTION:

Danger of causing damage to the ATF pipe.

  • The ATF pipe must sealed off to keep chips or dirt from getting into the pipe.
  • The ATF pipe surface must not be damaged. Replace the ATF pipe if it is damaged.

-- Saw about 2 /3 into the union nut with the hand saw.

-- Crack up the union nut with a screwdriver in direction of -arrow-. When doing this, do not support the screwdriver on the ATF pipe.

-- Bend the union nut with the water pump pliers in direction of -arrows- and remove it.

-- Clean the ATF pipe and remove the electrical tape.

-- Check the ATF pipe for damage and remove the plug taken from the Engine Bung SetVAS6122.

-- Clean the ATF pipe with compressed air. Rinse it with ATF if necessary.
