Left Coolant Pipe: Removing
-- Drain the coolant. Refer to COOLING SYSTEM, DRAINING AND FILLING .
-- Pull rear engine cover off -arrows-.
-- Pull front engine cover off -arrows-.
-- Disconnect electrical connector -2- at Mass Airflow (MAF) sensor 2 -G246-.
-- Remove left air guide hose -1- from air duct.
-- Release retaining clips -3- and remove upper left section of air filter housing.
-- Disconnect hose -1- to Secondary Air Injection (AIR) pump.
-- Disconnect electrical harness connector -4- at MAF sensor -G70-.
-- Remove right air guide hose -3- from air duct.
-- Release retaining clips -2- and remove upper right section of air filter housing from lower section.
Vehicles with Air Suspension
If necessary, remove electrical connector for Heated Oxygen Sensor (HO2S) 2 -G108- from bracket at right strut tower for better access.
-- Press circlip -1- forward from hose coupling.
-- Press release ring -2- down -arrows- and remove vent hose -3- from upper part of air filter.
All Vehicles
-- Disconnect vacuum hose -2- to Evaporative Emission (EVAP) canister purge regulator valve 1 -N80- by pressing release button.
-- Free up vacuum hose.
Ignore -1 and 3-.
-- Disconnect electrical harness connector -2- from EVAP canister purge regulator valve 1 --.
-- Remove -N80- -1- from bracket and lay aside.
Ignore -3-.
-- Disconnect the vacuum hose -4-.
Risk of violating emissions legislation.
- Do not open hose connection -2- !
-- Lay the air guide hose aside with the vacuum hose connected.
-- Loosen hose clamp -1- and remove bolts -3-.
-- Remove air guide pipe to right.
-- Remove crankcase ventilation hose -2-.
-- Remove bolts -3 to 5- and remove crankcase ventilation pressure regulator valve.
-- Remove oil runoff hose -1-.
To improve clarity, the removed engine is shown from the rear.
-- Remove crankcase ventilation hoses -1 and 3- together with coolant line -2-.

-- Remove vacuum hose -arrow- from intake manifold.
-- Disconnect electrical connection -1- at throttle valve control module -J338-.
-- Remove bolts -arrows- and remove throttle valve control module --.
To improve clarity, the removed engine is shown from the rear.
-- Remove electrical connectors -1 and 4- from brackets and disconnect them.
-- Remove nuts -2 and 3-.
-- Remove engine wiring harness bracket from coolant pipe and set it to the rear.
To improve clarity, the removed engine is shown from the rear.
-- Extract power steering fluid from the reservoir using the V.A.G 1782.
Place a rag under separating point to catch escaping hydraulic fluid.
-- Remove hose from power steering fluid reservoir -arrow-.
Place a rag under separating point to catch escaping hydraulic fluid.
-- Remove bolts -1- and nut -2- and remove power steering supply pipe.
-- Remove bolt -1- and remove oil dipstick guide tube upward and out -arrow-.
-- Remove coolant hose -arrows-.
-- Disconnect electrical harness connector -arrow- at Camshaft Position (CMP) sensor 4 -G301-.
-- Remove the bolts -1 and 2-.
-- Remove left coolant pipe from coolant hoses -arrows-.
