Gear Oil, Checking Level, Front Final Drive

Special tools and workshop equipment required

Procedure

Gear oil temperature: approximately 20 °C (68 °F) (room temperature).
Move vehicle onto a four-pillar workshop hoist or over a work pit so that it is absolutely horizontal.
Tightening specification, refer to OVERVIEW - FINAL DRIVE .

NOTE:

General repair instructions, refer to GENERAL REPAIR INFORMATION .

Clean working conditions for the automatic transmission, refer to GUIDELINES FOR CLEAN WORKING CONDITIONS .

Always maintain the specified transmission fluid level. The transmission is very sensitive to overfilling.

Follow all applicable disposal regulations.

-- Place the Used Oil Collection and Extraction Unit SMN372500 under the transmission.

WARNING:

Danger of eye injury.

-- Remove the plug -arrow-.

Specified value: the oil level is correct when the front final drive is filled to the lower edge of the filler hole.

-- Allow the excess gear oil to drain if necessary.

-- Add gear oil if necessary until it runs out of the gear oil filler hole.

NOTE:

Replace the drain plug and gasket.

-- Tighten the new sealing plug.
