Camshaft Timing Chain, Removing And Installing: Removing

Preliminary Work May Be Required Depending On The Model. Refer To CAMSHAFT, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Remove The Upper Timing Chain Cover. Refer To UPPER TIMING CHAIN COVER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

The Control Valves Have Left-Hand Thread.

-- Depending on the version, remove the control valve in the direction of -arrow- using either the :T10352A  or :T10352/1A  .

-- To Do So Counterhold On The Vibration Damper With The :T40263  , :T40314  And The 24 mm socket.

-- Remove The Bolts -arrows-.

• Carefully Remove The Bearing Bracket Without Tilting It.

-- Remove The Bearing Mount.

-- Turn The Vibration Damper In The "TDC" Position.

• The notch on the vibration damper and the marking on the lower cover for timing chain must be opposite one another -arrow-.
• The markings -1- on the camshaft chain sprockets must point upward.

TIP: 

The combination of the :T40263  , : T40314  and 24 mm socket are better suited than the :T10355  For Positioning The Vibration Damper.

-- Remove The Lower Timing Chain Cover. Refer To LOWER TIMING CHAIN COVER, REPLACING .

-- Check the "TDC point" again.

-- Press The Oil Pump Chain Tensioner In The Direction Of -Arrow- And Secure It With A :T40011  .

-- Remove The Guide Pin -1- And The Chain Tensioner.

-- Remove The Oil Pump Drive Chain.

-- Remove The Bolts -arrows-.

Two Different Chain Tensioners May Be Installed Depending on the Version:

Version 1: 

-- Install the :T40243  -arrows-.

-- Lift up the locking wedge for the chain tensioner by inserting a scriber or a suitable screwdriver into the chain tensioner opening in direction of -arrow 1-. Slowly press and hold the :T40243  in direction of -arrow 2-.

TIP: 

The chain tensioner is lubricated with oil and can only be pushed back slowly by applying constant pressure.

-- Secure the chain tensioner using the :T40011  .

-- Install the :T40243  -arrows-.

-- Press the chain tensioner circlip -1- together and hold it.

-- Slowly press and hold the :T40243  in direction of -arrow-.

TIP: 

The chain tensioner is lubricated with oil and can only be pushed back slowly by applying constant pressure.

-- Secure the chain tensioner with the :T40267  .

-- Remove the :T40243  .

-- Bolt the :T40271/2  to the cylinder head and into the splines on the chain sprocket in the direction of the -arrow 2-. If necessary, turn the intake camshaft with a wrench in the direction of the -arrow 1-.

With Wrench Clearance:

-- Install the :T40271/1  on the cylinder head. Counterhold the camshaft with a wrench in a clockwise direction -arrow-.

The help of a second technician is necessary for the following steps.

-- Remove the bolt -A- and slide the tensioning rail down. At the same time continue counterholding the camshaft.

-- Turn the exhaust camshaft clockwise in direction of -arrow- until the :T40271/1  can be slid into the chain sprocket splines.

Without Wrench Clearance:

-- Install the :T40271/1  on the cylinder head.

The help of a second technician is necessary for the following steps.

-- Hold the exhaust camshaft securely with the :T10172A  in direction of -arrow A-. Remove the bolt -1- and guide the tensioning rail -2- downward.

-- Turn the exhaust camshaft clockwise in direction of -arrow A- until the :T40271/1  can be pushed into the chain sprocket splines -C- in direction of -arrow B-.

-- Remove the upper guide rail -arrow- by unlocking the latch with a screwdriver and pushing the guide rail forward.

-- Remove the bolts -1- and remove the guide rail -2-.
