Left Flange Shaft

Special tools and workshop equipment required 

Removing 

Proceed as follows:

NOTE:

-- Remove left front wheel.

-- Remove noise insulation in center by loosening fasteners -1 through 4-.

-- Remove left noise insulation -arrows-.

-- Perform steps for removing left, drive axle -1- to wheel hub -2- connection must not be removed. Refer to Removal and Installation .

-- Tie up left side of drive axle

-- Place used oil collection and extraction device V.A.G 1782 under transmission.

-- Remove left flange shaft bolt by installing 2 bolts in flange and counter holding flange shaft with assembly lever.

-- Remove flange shaft with spring, thrust washer and tapered ring.

Installing 

Install in reverse order, paying attention to the following:

-- Press flange shaft against spring force and tighten.

-- Install left drive shaft. Refer to Removal and Installation .

-- Tighten ball joint on control arm. Refer to Description and Operation .

-- Tighten coupling rod on stabilizer bar. Refer to Description and Operation .

-- Gear oil level, checking and topping off. Refer to GEAR OIL LEVEL, CHECKING AND FILLING .
