Cooling System, Checking For Coolant Leaks: Notes

Special tools and workshop equipment required 

Procedure 

WARNING:

Risk of scalding due to hot steam and hot coolant.

  • When the engine is warm the cooling system is under pressure.
  • Reduce pressure by covering coolant reservoir cap with a cloth and carefully open.

-- Open coolant reservoir cap.

-- Position V.A.G 1274 A with V.A.G 1274/8 on coolant reservoir.

-- Generate approximately 1 bar pressure with cooling system tester hand pump.

-- If pressure falls, search for leaks and correct problem.
