Muffler Assembly Overview

NOTE:
Heat shield lock washers can be loosened and tightened with a screwdriver. Tightening Specification: 2 Nm

- Unit with rear muffler
- Install exhaust system free of stress, refer to EXHAUST SYSTEM, INSTALLING
- Retaining Loop
- Replace if damaged
- Nut
- 23 Nm
- Bracket for Exhaust System
- Bolt
- 23 Nm
- Suspended Mount
- Replace if damaged
- Bolt
- 23 Nm
- Tunnel Brace
- Nut
- Replace
- 40 Nm
- Seals
- Replace
- Oxygen Sensors Before Catalytic Converter
- Threads on new oxygen sensors are coated with assembly paste
- When re-installing a used oxygen sensor, coat threads with hot bolt paste.
- Assembly paste or hot bolt paste must not get onto slots of sensor body.
- Removal and installation, refer to Removal and Installation
- Oxygen Sensors Behind Catalytic Converter
- Threads on new oxygen sensors are coated with assembly paste
- When re-installing a used oxygen sensor, coat threads with hot bolt paste.
- Assembly paste or hot bolt paste must not get onto slots of sensor body.

- Front Exhaust Pipe with Catalytic Converters and Front MufflerCAUTION:
Risk of damaging decoupling elements.
- Do not bend decoupling element in front exhaust pipe more than 10°.
- Do not load decoupling element on cable
- Do not damage wire mesh at decoupling element
- Protect catalytic converter from shocks and impact stress
- Removal and installation, refer to FRONT EXHAUST PIPE WITH CATALYTIC CONVERTERS AND FRONT MUFFLER
- Remove decoupling element guard on replacement part as late as possible
- Install exhaust system free of stress, refer to EXHAUST SYSTEM, INSTALLING
- Nut
- 23 Nm
- Clamping Sleeve
- Before tightening, ensure exhaust system is tension-free EXHAUST SYSTEM, INSTALLING
- Installed location, refer to Fig 2
- Tighten threaded connections evenly.
- Rear Muffler
- Unit with center muffler
- Install exhaust system free of stress, refer to EXHAUST SYSTEM, INSTALLING
- Retaining Loop
- Replace if damaged
- Nut
- 23 Nm
-- Install clamping sleeve in angle position shown.
- Threaded connections point toward the right.
- Nuts face up.
- α = approximately 20°
