Impact Member, Removing And Installing, Vehicles With Trailer Hitch: Removing

-- Remove the rear bumper cover, refer to BUMPER COVER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Remove the luggage compartment side trim panel, refer to LUGGAGE COMPARTMENT TRIM PANELS .

-- Drill a hole in the left and right sides of the spare wheel well in the direction of travel (front) in order to be able remove the bolts.

-- Make plumb lines -1- and -2- from dimensions -a- and -b-.

WARNING:

Injury risk.

-- Pre-drill with a 3 mm drill bit diameter.

-- Drill up to diameter 40 mm using a step drill.

-- If equipped remove the All Wheel Drive Control Module -J492- item -3-, refer to TRANSMISSION CONTROL COMPONENT LOCATION OVERVIEW .

-- Disconnect the connectors -2 and 4-.

-- Free up the connector -1 and 5- from the impact member.

-- Remove the bolts -arrows-.
