Input Shaft Seal, Replacing

Special tools and workshop equipment required 

Procedure 

-- Remove the dual mass flywheel. Refer to DUAL MASS FLYWHEEL, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Rotate Puller - Driveshaft Seal T40014 by hand into shaft seal until the tool has a good hold in the shaft seal. Then tighten the tool with a wrench.

NOTE:

The illustration shows a different transmission.

-- You can pull out shaft seal a short distance by screwing in rear bolt of puller.

-- Retighten Puller - Driveshaft Seal T40014 so that puller engages securely in shaft seal again and continue turning screw to pull out shaft seal.

-- Repeat the process until the shaft seal is removed completely.

-- Coat the new shaft seal -A- with Automatic Transmission Fluid (ATF).

-- Install the sealing ring on the input shaft being careful not to touch the splines on the shaft.

NOTE:

The shaft seal can be damaged if it touches the input shaft splines.

Slide shaft seal as far as possible into cover so that it cannot bend when driving in.

-- Mount the sealing ring using the Seal Installer - Driveshaft T40167 all the way without bending it.

-- Install the dual mass flywheel. Refer to DUAL MASS FLYWHEEL, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- After installing the transmission check the ATF level and correct. Refer to ATF LEVEL, CHECKING .
