Speed Signal Circuit [10/2013 - ]: Procedure

  1. INSPECT COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY (INPUT VOLTAGE) 
    1. Disconnect the D9 combination meter assembly connector.

    2. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      D9-9 (+S) - Body ground Engine switch on (IG) 4.5 to 14 V
      TEXT IN ILLUSTRATION

      *a Rear view of wire harness connector
      (to Combination Meter Assembly)

      HINT: 

      If any of the ECUs specified in the wiring diagram supplies power to the combination meter assembly, the combination meter assembly will output a waveform.

    NG → See step   5 

    OK: Go to next step 

  2. INSPECT COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY (OUTPUT VOLTAGE) 
    1. Reconnect the D9 combination meter assembly connector.
    2. Disconnect the A30 brake actuator assembly (skid control ECU) connector.

    3. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      A30-2 (SP1) - Body ground Engine switch on (IG) 11 to 14 V

      (to Brake Actuator Assembly (Skid Control ECU))

    NG → See step   4 

    OK: Go to next step 

  3. INSPECT SKID CONTROL ECU (INPUT WAVEFORM) 
    1. Check the input waveform.

      1. Reconnect the A30 brake actuator assembly (skid control ECU) connector.
      2. Remove the combination meter assembly with the connector(s) still connected.
      3. Connect an oscilloscope to terminal D9-8 (SI) and body ground.
      4. Turn the engine switch on (IG).
      5. Turn a wheel slowly.
      6. Check the signal waveform according to the condition(s) in the table below.
        Item Condition
        Tool setting 5 V/DIV., 20 ms./DIV.
        Vehicle condition Engine switch on (IG), wheel being rotated

        OK

        The waveform is similar to that shown in the illustration.

        HINT: 

        When the system is functioning normally, one wheel revolution generates 4 pulses. As the vehicle speed increases, the width indicated by (A) in the illustration narrows.

  4. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY - SKID CONTROL ECU) 
    1. Disconnect the D9 combination meter assembly connector.
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      D9-8 (SI) - A30-2 (SP1) Always Below 1 Ω
      D9-8 (SI) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK → See step   19 

  5. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY - NO. 6 JUNCTION CONNECTOR) 
    1. Disconnect the D100 No. 6 junction connector.
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      D9-9 (+S) - D100-1 Always Below 1 Ω
      D9-9 (+S) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK: Go to next step 

  6. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (NO. 6 JUNCTION CONNECTOR) 
    1. Inspect for a short in the wire harnesses and connectors connected to the No. 6 junction connector shown in the wiring diagram.

      HINT: 

      If voltage is not present, it is possible that an ECU or circuit has a malfunction. The malfunctioning ECU or circuit will be diagnosed in the following steps.

      1. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

        Standard Voltage

        Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
        D100-2 - Body ground Engine switch on (IG) 4.5 to 14 V
        D100-3 - Body ground Engine switch on (IG) 4.5 to 14 V
        D100-5 - Body ground Engine switch on (IG) 4.5 to 14 V
        D100-9 - Body ground Engine switch on (IG) 4.5 to 14 V

        Result

        Result Proceed to
        Voltage is not present in one circuit. A
        Voltage is present in all of the circuits. B

    B → REPLACE NO. 6 JUNCTION CONNECTOR (NO. 6 JUNCTION CONNECTOR) 

    A: Go to next step 

  7. SYSTEM CHECK 
    1. Select the circuit for which voltage was not present in step 6.

      Result

  8. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (CERTIFICATION ECU (SMART KEY ECU ASSEMBLY) CIRCUIT) 
    1. Disconnect the D64 certification ECU (smart key ECU assembly) connector.
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      D64-27 (SPD) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK → See step   20 

  9. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (WINDSHIELD WIPER RELAY ASSEMBLY CIRCUIT) 
    1. Disconnect the D54 windshield wiper relay assembly connector.
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      D54-24 (SPD) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK → See step   28 

  10. SYSTEM CHECK 
    1. Select the circuit for which voltage was not present in step 6.

  11. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (ECM CIRCUIT) 
    1. Disconnect the A18 ECM connector.
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      A18-10 (SPD) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR

  12. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (TRANSMISSION CONTROL ECU ASSEMBLY (TCM) CIRCUIT) 
    1. Disconnect the B2 transmission control ECU assembly (TCM) connector.
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      B2-3 (SPD) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR

  13. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (HEADLIGHT LEVELING ECU ASSEMBLY CIRCUIT) 
    1. Disconnect the A24 headlight leveling ECU assembly connector.
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      A24-16 (SPDR) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR

  14. SYSTEM CHECK 
    1. Select the circuit for which voltage was not present in step 6.

    1. Disconnect the E11 DCM (telematics transceiver) connector.
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

  17. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (RADIO AND DISPLAY RECEIVER ASSEMBLY CIRCUIT, NAVIGATION ECU SUB-ASSEMBLY CIRCUIT) 
    1. Disconnect the E5*1 radio and display receiver assembly or E20*2 navigation ECU sub-assembly connector.
      • *1: for Radio and Display Type
      • *2: for Navigation Receiver Type
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.
