Transmission Output Shaft Seal, Replacing, Transmission Output Shaft With Splines And Without Vibration Damper
Special tools and workshop equipment required
- Puller - Crankshaft/Power Steering Seal T20143
- Seal Installer - Output Shaft T40239
- Sealing Grease G 052 128 A1
Procedure
-- Remove the driveshaft. Refer to DRIVESHAFT, REMOVING AND INSTALLING For Sport Differential, refer to 39 FINAL DRIVE, DIFFERENTIAL .
-- Pry off the dust ring -1-.
The dust ring cannot be removed without destroying it.
-- Shaft Seal, Transmission Output Shaft with Splines, Removing
-- Clean the running and sealing surface.
-- Coat the outer edge of the shaft seal with transmission fluid.
-- Mount the Seal Installer - Output Shaft - Guide Sleeve 1 T40239/1, item -1- on the transmission output shaft (as illustrated).
-- Fill the space between the sealing and dust lip halfway with Sealing Grease G 052 128 A1.
-- Install the shaft seal -2- over the guide sleeve -1- and onto the transmission output shaft.
- Installed position: The open side of the shaft seal faces the transmission housing.
-- Install the shaft seal using the Seal Installer - Output Shaft T40239, item -1- from the Seal Installer - Output Shaft T40239 up to the end stop. Do not bend the seal (as illustrated).
Remove the Seal Installer - Output Shaft - Guide Sleeve 1 T40239/1 from the shaft seal carefully so that the sealing lip does not fold over.
-- Install a new dust ring -1-.
-- Install the driveshaft. Refer to OVERVIEW - DRIVESHAFT, MOUNTED ON TRANSMISSION SIDE or OVERVIEW - DRIVESHAFT, BOLTS ON TRANSMISSION SIDE . For Sport Differential, refer to OVERVIEW - DRIVESHAFT BOLTED ON TRANSMISSION SIDE, AUDI A4 AND A5 or OVERVIEW - DRIVESHAFT, MOUNTED ON TRANSMISSION SIDE . .
-- Check transmission fluid level. Refer to TRANSMISSION FLUID LEVEL, CHECKING .
