Pistons, Removing And Installing: Removing

-- Remove the cylinder head. Refer to CYLINDER HEAD, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Remove the oil pan upper section. Refer to OIL PAN UPPER SECTION, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Remove the oil pump. Refer to OIL PUMP, REMOVING AND INSTALLING

-- Remove the bolts -1 through 6- and remove the Baffle Plate.

-- Mark the installed position and to which connecting rod bearing cap and cylinder and the connecting rod it belongs for installing again later. Refer to PISTON INSTALLED POSITION  and/or MARK CONNECTING RODS  .

-- Remove the connecting rod bearing cap.

-- Remove the piston and connecting rod upward.

-- Remove the circlip -2- from the piston pin eye.

-- Remove the piston pin -3- using the Pilot Drift :VW 222A  .

NOTE:

Warm the piston to approximately 60 °C (140 °F) if it is difficult to move the piston pin.

-- Remove the pistons -1- from the connecting rod -4-.
