Turbocharger Control Module 1 -J724-, REMOVING AND INSTALLING, VEHICLES WITH A TURBOCHARGER: Removing
Follow all the rules of cleanliness.
-- Remove the engine cover. Refer to ENGINE COVER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Release the cover -3- and swivel it to the side in direction of -arrow-.
-- Connect the :VAS6395A/1 to the positive terminal -2- and to the ground -1- using the :VAS6395/2 .
Procedure for :VAS6395A/1 :
-- Select the software version using the ↑ -5- and ↓ -6- buttons.
-- Press the v button -4- to confirm the software version.
Procedure for :VAS6395/1 :
Check the software version of the :VAS6395/1 :
Danger of damaging the Turbocharger Control Module 1 -J724-.
- Make sure the correct software is loaded in the :VAS6395/1 before performing the following procedure:
If the correct software is loaded, the following will be displayed on the :VAS6395/1 (2 seconds after the voltage supply is connected):
- > 1. START
- 2. NEXT [>]
If the following appears in the display, then incorrect software has been loaded:
1. >TEST
2. LEARN
German market: In this case, download the correct software from the "Audi Dealer Portal under Service" in the "Workshop Equipment" section.
Rest of World: In this case, download the correct software from the "information platform of the importer".
For Both E-Boxes
-- Disconnect the Turbocharger Control Module 1 -J724- connector.
-- Connect the :VAS6395/2 on the Turbocharger Control Module 2 -J724- and on the :VAS6395A/1 .
Select on the :VAS6395A/1 display:
- > 1. START
- 2. NEXT [>]
-- Press the v button -4- to continue.
- The :VAS6395A/1 checks the Turbocharger Control Module 1 -J724- adjustment range in steps to determine if the end points are being reached. "CHECK" appears in the display.
Select on the :VAS6395A/1 :
- [OK]
If "[OK]" appears in the display, then the Turbocharger Control Module 1 -J724- adjustment range is OK.
If "FAULT [OK]" appears in the display, tap the side of the Turbocharger Control Module 1 -J724- housing several times with a screwdriver handle and then the v button -4- to repeat the test.
-- Remove the bolt -arrow-.
All other bolts visible in the illustration must not be removed.
-- Attach the :VAS6395/6 to the center opening in the bracket for the Turbocharger Control Module 1 -J724- and tighten the bolt to 8 Nm.
-- Press the v button -4- to continue.
- To determine the voltage, the Turbocharger Control Module 1 -J724- will check back and forth several times between the stops.
- Then the Turbocharger Control Module 1 -J724- will go into the in installation position.
-- While determining the voltage, tap on the side of the Turbocharger Control Module 1 -J724- housing with the handle of a screwdriver until the following appears in the display:
Select on the :VAS6395A/1 display:
- X, XXX V
- [↑][↓][OK]
-- Write down the voltage.
- Specified value: 3.3 to 3.7 V.
If "FAULT [OK]" appears or if the voltage is less than 3.3 V or greater than 3.7 V, disconnect the :VAS6395A/1 and repeat the entire procedure. Refer to Turbocharger Control Module 1 -J724-, REMOVING AND INSTALLING, VEHICLES WITH A TURBOCHARGER .
If no voltage value can be read out, the turbocharger must be replaced.
Select on the :VAS6395A/1 display:
- X, XXX V
- [↑][↓][OK]
-- Adjust the Turbocharger Control Module 1 -J724- using the ↑ -5- or ↓ -6- buttons so that the coupling rod is accessible for removal.
-- Remove the circlips -arrows- and disconnect the coupling rod.
Select on the Electronic Unit (E-Box):VAS6395A/1 display:
- X, XXX V
- [↑][↓][OK]
-- Adjust Turbocharger Control Module 1 -J724- using the ↑ -5- or ↓ -6- buttons so that the bolts for -J724- are accessible.
-- Disconnect the :VAS6395/2 from the Turbocharger Control Module 1 -J724-
The voltage supply for the :VAS6395A/1 must remain connected.
-- Remove the bolts -1, 2 and 3- and dispose of them.
All other bolts visible in the illustration must not be removed.
-- Remove the old Turbocharger Control Module 1 -J724- and dispose of it.
Make sure there are 3 insulating washers between the Turbocharger Control Module 1 -J724- and the bracket.
-- Install the new Turbocharger Control Module 1 -J724- in reverse order of removal.
-- Install the new screws as follows:
- M6 x 15 with Narrow Shaft
- M6 x 15 with Narrow Shaft
- M6 x 15
-- Only tighten the bolts by hand.
- The Turbocharger Control Module 1 -J724- must contact the retaining plate without play, but is must be possible to move it by hand.
-- Connect the :VAS6395/2 on the Turbocharger Control Module 1 -J724-
-- Press the v button -4- to continue.
Select on the :VAS6395A/1 display:
- > 1. START
- 2. NEXT [>]
-- Select "NEXT" using the ↓ button -6-.
-- Press the v button -4- to continue.
- The :VAS6395A/1 checks the Turbocharger Control Module 1 -J724- adjustment range in steps to determine if the end points are being reached. "CHECK" appears in the display.
Select on the :VAS6395A/1 display:
- X, XXX V
- [OK]
If "FAULT" appears in the display, then replace the new Turbocharger Control Module 1 -J724- again.
-- Press the v button -4- to continue.
Select on the :VAS6395A/1 display:
- [OK]
-- Press the v button -4- to continue.
Select on the :VAS6395A/1 display:
- X.XXX V (Starting Up Voltage)
- [OK]
- The Turbocharger Control Module 1 -J274- moves into the installation position.
-- Install the coupling rod.
- Installed position: Attach the thicker eye to the Turbocharger Control Module 1 -J724- shaft.
-- Install the lock washers -arrows-.
- The circlips must engage audibly.
-- Gently push the Turbocharger Control Module 1 -J724- to the rear in direction of -arrow-, until the lever -1- touches the :VAS6395/6 .
-- Hold the -J724- in this position.
-- Tighten the bolts -1, 2 and 3- to 5 Nm.
-- Press the v button -4- to continue.
- The Turbocharger Control Module 1 -J274- will move back and forth several times between the stops and will be set to the start up voltage.
Select on the :VAS6395A/1 display:
- X.XXX V (Starting Up Voltage)
- [OK]
If [OK] appears in the display, stop the adjustment. Refer to Turbocharger Control Module 1 -J724-, REMOVING AND INSTALLING, VEHICLES WITH A TURBOCHARGER .
If "CHECK" appears in the display, continue as follows.
Procedure, if "CHECK" Appears in the Display:
Select on the :VAS6395A/1 display:
- [<<<]
- CHECK
or
- [>>>]
- CHECK
-- Loosen the bolts -1, 2 and 3- just enough so that is possible to move the Turbocharger Control Module 1 -J724- with slight resistance in the direction specified.
- If [<<<] appears in the display, then slightly move the Turbocharger Control Module 1 -J724- in direction of travel.
- If [>>>] appears in the display, slightly move the Turbocharger Control Module 1 -J724- opposite the drive direction.
-- Tighten the bolts -1, 2 and 3- to 5 Nm.
-- Press the v button -4- to continue.
- The Turbocharger Control Module 1 -J274- will move back and forth several times again between the stops and will be set to the start up voltage.
Select on the :VAS6395A/1 display:
- X, XXX V
- [OK]
Complete the Adjustment
-- Tighten the bolts -1, 2 and 3- to 10 Nm.
-- Press the v button -4- to continue.
Select on the :VAS6395A/1 display:
- X, XXX V
- [OK]
-- Remove the :VAS6395/6 -arrow-.
-- Press the v button -4- to continue.
- The Turbocharger Control Module 1 -J724- goes to the end points.
If "FAULT" appears in the display, then replace the new Turbocharger Control Module 1 -J724-. Refer to Turbocharger Control Module 1 -J724-, REMOVING AND INSTALLING, VEHICLES WITH A TURBOCHARGER .
Select on the Electronic Unit (E-Box) display:
- [OK]
- The adjustment is complete.
-- Disconnect the connector for the :VAS6395A/1 .
Assembly is performed in reverse order.
