Heater And A/C Unit, Removing And Installing: Removing

WARNING:

There is a risk of scalding from hot steam and coolant.

  • The coolant system is under pressure when the engine is warm.
  • To reduce the pressure, cover the coolant reservoir cap with several cloths and then open it carefully.

-- Open the coolant reservoir cap -arrow-.

-- Discharge the refrigerant circuit. Refer to REFRIGERANT CIRCUIT .

-- Remove the tower brace. Refer to TOWER BRACE, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Cover the area beneath connections for coolant hoses in the plenum chamber, for example with absorbent paper.

-- Mark the location of the coolant hoses.

NOTE:

Keep a container underneath the respective coolant hose to prevent the coolant from entering the plenum chamber when removing coolant hoses.

-- Clamp off the coolant hoses -1 and 4- with the Hose Clamps - Up To 25mm :3094  and remove the heater core by loosening the hose clamps -2 and 3-.

-- Slide a short hose -A and C- onto both of the connections.

-- Hold the container -B- under the second hose and carefully blow the coolant out of the heater core using the compressed-air gun.

-- Loosen the grommet -3- from the plenum chamber bulkhead mount -2- and remove it from the heater core connections -1-.

-- Remove the expansion valve. Refer to EXPANSION VALVE, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Remove the retaining plate -A- from the refrigerant lines -B and C-.

-- Coat the support ring -E- with lubricant and pry it out of the mount toward the front.

-- Loosen the grommet -D- to the A/C unit from the plenum chamber bulkhead mount.

CAUTION:

There is a risk of ruining the grommet.

  • The grommet is connected to the A/C system and can be removed directly after disassembling the A/C system.

-- Remove the instrument panel. Refer to INSTRUMENT PANEL COVER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Remove the air intake housing. Refer to AIR INTAKE MANIFOLD, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Remove the nut -2- and then remove the ground cable -1-.

-- Open the tab -4- to disconnect the connector -3-.

-- Remove the air guide -2- upward.

-- Free up the wiring harness -1-.

-- Disconnect the connector from the Right Vent Temperature Sensor -G151-.

-- Remove the bolt -3- from the expanding clip.

-- Remove the instrument panel vent air guide -1-.

-- Remove the central tube. .

-- Remove the rear air guide channel. Refer to REAR AIR GUIDE CHANNEL, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Remove the condensation water drain hose -1- from the A/C unit connection -2- on the left and right.

-- Remove the bolt -3- and move the tab -4- in direction of -arrow- to release.

-- Remove the air guide channel -1 and 3- for the rear footwell vent from the air distribution housing -2- and move to the side -arrows-.

-- Pull the air distribution housing slightly toward the rear and remove it to the right.
