Turbocharger Control Module 1 -J724-, REMOVING AND INSTALLING (VEHICLES WITH ENGINE CODE CPNB): Removing

-- Remove the engine cover, refer to ENGINE COVER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Remove the cover -1- on the handle.

-- Release the retainer -arrow A- and open the cover -arrow B-.

-- Turbo E-Positioner Service Kit VAS6395A/1 with the Turbo E-Positioner Service Kit - Wire Set VAS6395/2 to the positive terminal -1- and to the negative terminal -2-.

-- Select the software version using the ↑ -5- and ↓ -6- buttons.

-- Press the v button -4- to confirm the software version.

NOTE:

In this example, Hella software -1- is selected.

Procedure for Electronic Unit (E-Box) VAS6395/1:

Check the software version of the Electronic Unit (E-Box) VAS6395/1:

CAUTION:

Danger of damaging the Turbocharger Control Module 1 -J724-.

Make sure the correct software is loaded in the Electronic Unit (E-Box) VAS6395/1 before performing the following procedure:

If the correct software is loaded, the following will be displayed on the Electronic Unit (E-Box) VAS6395/1 (2 seconds after the voltage supply is connected):

> 1. START
2. NEXT [>]

NOTE:

If the following appears in the display, then incorrect software has been loaded:

1. >TEST

2. LEARN

If this is the case, then download the software from "Audi Service Net", "Workshop Equipment".

For Both E-boxes:

-- Disconnect the Turbocharger Control Module 1 -J724- connector.

-- Connect the Turbo E-Positioner Service Kit - Wire Set VAS6395/2 on the Turbocharger Control Module 2 -J724- and on the E-Positioner Service Kit VAS6395A/1.

Select on the VAS6395A/1 display:

-- Press the v button -4- to continue.

The E-Positioner Tester VAS6395 A/1 checks the Turbocharger Control Module 2\1 -J724- adjustment range in steps to determine if the end points are being reached. "CHECK" appears in the display.

Select on the E-Box VAS6395A/1:

NOTE:

If "[OK]" appears in the display, then the Turbocharger Control Module 1 -J724- adjustment range is OK.

If "FAULT [OK]" appears in the display, tap the side of the Turbocharger Control Module 1 -J724- housing several times with a screwdriver handle and then the v button -item 4- to repeat the test.

-- Remove the bolt -arrow-.

NOTE:

All other bolts visible in the illustration must not be removed.

-- Attach the Turbo E-Positioner Service Kit - Bracket VAS6395 /6 to the center opening in the bracket for the Turbocharger Control Module 1 -J724- and tighten the bolt to 8 Nm.

-- Press the v button -4- to continue.

To determine the voltage, the Turbocharger Control Module 1 -J724- will check back and forth several times between the stops.
Then the Turbocharger Control Module 1 -J724- will go into the in installation position.

-- While determining the voltage, tap on the side of the Turbocharger Control Module 1 -J724- housing with the handle of a screwdriver until the following appears in the display:

Select on the E-Box VAS6395A/1 display:

X, XXX V
[↑][↓][OK]

-- Write down the voltage.

Specified value: 3.3 to 3.7 V.

NOTE:

If "FAULT [OK]" appears or if the voltage is less than 3.3 V or greater than 3.7 V, disconnect the E-Positioner Service Kit VAS6395 A/1 and repeat the entire procedure.

Select on the E-Box VAS6395A/1 display:

-- Adjust the Turbocharger Control Module 1 -J724- using the ↑ -5- or ↓ -6- buttons so that the coupling rod is accessible for removal.

-- Remove the circlips -arrows- and disconnect the coupling rod.

-- Adjust Turbocharger Control Module 1 -J724- using the ↑ -5- or ↓ -item 6- buttons so that the bolts for Turbocharger Control Module 1 -J724- are accessible.

-- Disconnect the Turbo E-Positioner Service Kit - Wire Set VAS6395/2 from the Turbocharger Control Module 1 -J724-

CAUTION:

The voltage supply for the Turbo E-Positioner Service Kit - E Box VAS6395/1A must remain connected.

-- Remove the bolts -1, 2 and 3- and dispose of them.

All other bolts visible in the illustration must not be removed.

-- Remove the old Turbocharger Control Module 1 -J724- and dispose of it.

CAUTION:

Make sure there are 3 insulating washers between the Turbocharger Control Module 1 -J724- and the bracket.
