Automatic Transmission Fluid (ATF), Filling For Automatic Transmission Fluid (ATF) Flush
Special tools and workshop equipment required
- Used Oil Collection and Extraction Unit SMN372500
- CVT Gearbox Filler System VAS5162
Preparing
- Drain the Automatic Transmission Fluid (ATF)
Danger of causing damage to the transmission.
- Use replacement ATF for the "Multitronic 0AW" only.
- Other types of non-approved ATFs and oils can cause malfunctions in the transmission or the transmission could stop working all together.
- The ATF filler tool must be clean and the ATF must not be mixed with any other oils.
The illustration on the reservoir for the CVT Gearbox Filler System VAS5162 in the upper left graphic refers to the use of special ATF for CVT transmissions (See Fig 1).
In addition, the necessary work steps for filling are illustrated, which are described as follows:
Procedure
-- Fill the CVT Gearbox Filler System VAS5162 with the ATF for the "Multitronic 0AW" transmission.
-- Secure the filled container to the vehicle as high as possible.
- The shut-off valve on the CVT Gearbox Filler System VAS5162 must be closed.
Danger of causing damage to the transmission.
- Do not start the engine if there is only a little or no Automatic Transmission Fluid (ATF) in the transmission.
- In this case, a preliminary filling with 5.5 to 6 liters Automatic Transmission Fluid (ATF) must be performed.
-- Remove the O-ring -1- on the connection -2- on the CVT Gearbox Filler System VAS5162.
Danger of misfilling the transmission.
- The connection -2- must be mounted by hand all the way into the inspection plug hole on the transmission without the O-ring.
- The oil level tube can be pushed into the ATF inspection plug hole in the upper position only when the O-ring is not on the connection -2-.
- This is the only way to correctly check and/or adjust the ATF level to maximum.
-- Install the CVT Gearbox Filler System VAS5162 connection, without the o-ring, all the way into the Automatic Transmission Fluid (ATF) check hole hand-tight.
This >>presses<< the oil level tube into the correction installation position.
-- Turn the valve to the filler hose -lower arrow-. The ATF flows into the transmission.
-- Fill at least 5.5 to 6 liters ATF into transmission.
-- Move the selector lever into "P".
Immediately after starting the engine, let it run at 2, 500 RPM.
- Running the engine at high speeds is necessary so that the Automatic Transmission Fluid (ATF) pump is bled after a transmission repair.
- If this is not done, the pump could get damaged because it was briefly operated without any ATF.
-- Start the engine.
-- Using the accelerator pedal, let the engine run briefly at 2, 500 RPM.
-- Press the brake pedal and hold it down.
-- Shift through all selector lever positions "P, R, N, D, S" and let each position remain shifted at idle for approximately two seconds.
-- Selector lever in "P" and let engine continue to run at idle.
-- Thread connection on shut-off valve of CVT Gearbox Filler System VAS5162 from ATF inspection plug opening.
-- Let any excess ATF drain out.
-- Tighten the old ATF check plug.
- Tightening Specification: 30 Nm.
-- Continue ATF flushing. Refer to Flush Automatic Transmission Fluid (ATF) .
-- After the second flushing check the ATF level and fill, refer to ATF LEVEL, CHECKING .
