Recommended sequence for adjusting gear set

The following work sequence is recommended to save time when the ring gear and pinion shaft have to be adjusted:

Determine total shim thickness "S_total " (S₃ plus S₄ ) for the specified preload on pinion shaft tapered roller bearings.
Distribute total shim thickness "S_total " (S₃ plus S₄ ) so that dimension from center of ring gear to end face of pinion shaft corresponds to installation dimension "R" determined during production.
Determine total shim thickness "S_total " (S₁ plus S₂ ) for the specified preload on differential tapered roller bearings.
Distribute total shim thickness "S_total " (S₁ plus S₂ ) so that the specified backlash between ring gear and pinion shaft is obtained.
