Speedometer drive wheel, removing and installing

Special tools and equipment 

• VW 295 Mandrel
• VW 681 Extractor lever
• 2062 Insertion mandrel
• T10037 Puller

• VAG 1331 Torque wrench
• VAG 1332 Torque wrench

• VAG 1306 Drip tray

Removing 

• Turn steering wheel to left lock.
• If installed, remove cover plate above left drive axle.
• Disconnect drive axle from drive flange.
• Place drip tray in position.

• Remove drive flange by firmly screwing puller T10037 to cover of differential (arrow).
• Pull out oil seal of drive flange using VW 681.
• Remove speedometer vehicle speed sensor. Refer to Speedometer vehicle speed sensor -G22-, removing and installing .

Removing speedometer driving gear:

• Press clips in direction of arrow using a screwdriver.
• Remove driving gear by prying out on all sides.

Installing 

Install in reverse order, paying attention to the following:

Driving tab of driving gear -A- faces oil seal -B- and locks in place in groove of differential.

The clips (arrows) engage in circumferential groove of differential.

• Always replace oil seal -B- and circlip -C-.
• Drive in drive flange using mandrel VW 295.
• Top up manual transmission with oil and check oil level. Refer to Transmission oil level, checking .
