Backrest Adjustment Motor And Shift Unit, Removing And Installing: Installing

WARNING:

Follow all safety precautions when working with pyrotechnic components. Refer to SAFETY PRECAUTIONS .
Before handling airbag units (for example, connecting the connector), the technician handling it must "discharge static electricity" from their body. For example, this can be done by briefly touching the door striker.

-- The threaded screw hole must always be cleaned (for example, with a thread tap).

-- Clean the thread on the shaft -3- with a thread tap, for example.

-- Check the position of the backrest frame -2- and the hinge -1- on the left and right side.

The left and right side of the backrest frame must be in the position marked before removal -A and B arrows-.

-- If the left and right side of the backrest frame are not in the position marked before removal, correct the position accordingly.

-- Position the backrest adjustment motor -1- on the bracket -3-.

-- Replace the bolt -4-. Coat it with locking fluid and tighten it by hand. Refer to Parts Information.

It must still be possible to move the backrest adjustment motor.

-- First slide the shaft through the hinge (tunnel side) as far as the mount -2- in the backrest adjustment motor.

-- Check if the profiles of the inserted shaft and the mount -2- in the backrest adjustment motor align.

If the shaft and mount profiles in the backrest adjustment motor align:

-- Slide the shaft through the mount in the backrest adjustment motor up to approximately the middle of the seat.

If the shaft and mount profiles in the backrest adjustment motor do not align:

-- Connect an external power source (12 Volt) to the backrest adjustment motor -1-.

-- Rotate the mount -2- until it aligns with the shaft and mount profiles.

-- Slide the shaft through the mount in the backrest adjustment motor up to approximately the middle of the seat.

-- Install the switch unit. Refer to Installing .

-- Slide the shaft -3- through the spindle and the hinge (sill side) until it stops.

-- Apply locking fluid to the threaded piece of the shaft. Refer to Parts Information.

-- Install and tighten the new nut -5- on the shaft.

-- Bolt the backrest adjustment motor on the bracket -3- and tighten it to the tightening specification.

-- Adjust the switch unit microswitch -2-. Refer to BACKREST LOCK SWITCH MICROSWITCH, ADJUSTING .

-- After adjusting the switch unit, slide the locking bushing -4- onto the spindle -3-.

-- Lock the locking bushing with the spindle.

-- Check the switch unit. Refer to BACKREST LOCK SWITCH MICROSWITCH, CHECKING .

The Rest Of The Installation Is Performed In Reverse Order Of Removal. Note The Following:

NOTE:

Make Sure The Connectors Are Installed All The Way And Engage Audibly.

WARNING:

The ignition must be on when connecting the battery. If pyrotechnic components (for example, airbag, belt tensioner) are not repaired correctly, they may deploy unintentionally after connecting battery. There must not be anyone in the vehicle interior when connecting the battery.

-- Connect the battery ground cable with the ignition switched on. Refer to BATTERY, DISCONNECTING AND CONNECTING .

NOTE:

If the Airbag Indicator Lamp -K75- indicates a fault, check the DTC memory, erase it and check it again using the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester.

-- Perform the following after removing and installing the backrest adjustment motor:

Calibration, Performing. Refer to BACKREST LOCK SWITCH ADAPTATION DRIVE/CALIBRATION, PERFORMING .
Function Test, Performing. Refer to BACKREST LOCK SWITCH FUNCTION TEST, PERFORMING .
