Overview - Front Brakes, 1LA, 1LB, 1LJ And 1LD 1ZT +S4 /S5: Overview

1 - Brake Pads
- Illustration of left front with brake wear cable
  NOTE:
  The inner surface (with tension spring) in the left brake caliper is equipped with a cable for wear indicator.
- Always Replace On Both Axles.
- Before inserting the pads, clean the contact surfaces and apply a layer of Polycarbamide Grease:G 052 142 A2 .
- Refer to BRAKE PADS, REMOVING AND INSTALLING, 1LA, 1LB, 1LJ AND 1LD 1ZT + S4 /S5
- Check the brake pad thickness. Refer to appropriate service information.
- Different versions. Refer to Parts Information..
  NOTE:
  Before installing the brake pads, clean the brake pad bolt -arrows- and apply a thin coat of grease. Refer to Parts Information.. When doing this, do not allow any grease to get on the rubber components. Remove any grease from the rubber components.
2 - Brake Carrier
- Bolt to wheel bearing housing
- The retaining pins for the brake pads on the brake carrier must not be loosened under any circumstances.
3 - Bolt
- 196 Nm
- Brake carrier to wheel bearing housing
  NOTE:
  Clean Bolts Before Reusing
  
  Replace Damaged Bolts
  
  Always replace self-locking bolts.
4 - Bolt
- 30 Nm
- Tighten the brake caliper to the brake carrier.
  NOTE:
  Clean Bolts Before Reusing
  
  Replace Damaged Bolts
  
  Always replace self-locking bolts.
5 - Brake Line Connection to Brake Caliper
- 20 Nm
6 - Bolt
CAUTION:
The 4 bolts must not be loosened under any circumstances.
7 - Brake Caliper Housing
- When doing work, do not let it hang from the brake hose, but rather suspend it from the body using wire
- The brake caliper must not be disassembled.
- Refer to BRAKE CALIPER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING, 1LA, 1LB, 1LJ AND 1LD 1ZT + S4 /S5
- Refer to BRAKE CALIPER, REPLACING, 1LA, 1LB, 1LJ AND 1LD 1ZT + S4 /S5
- Refer to OVERVIEW - FRONT BRAKE CALIPER, FBC, 1LA AND 1LJ BRAKE CALIPER
- No other repairs may be made to the brake caliper other than "Brake Pads, Removing and Installing" and "Brake Caliper, Servicing, Front" and replacing the guide pins.
- Hose must be installed free of twists
8 -Spring Clamp
- Remove the brake pads before removal
- Insert after installing the brake pads
9 - Brake Pad Retaining Pins
CAUTION:
The four retaining pins for the brake pads on the brake carrier must not be loosened under any circumstances.

NOTE:
Before installing the brake pads, clean the brake pad bolt -arrows- and apply a thin coat of grease. Refer to Parts Information.. When doing this, do not allow any grease to get on the rubber components. Clean the rubber components of grease.
10 - Securing the Brake Pad in the Brake Caliper
11 - Brake Rotor
- Wear limit. Refer to PR NUMBER ALLOCATION - BRAKES .
- Always Replace On Both Axles.
- Refer to BRAKE ROTOR, REMOVING AND INSTALLING, 1LA, 1LB, 1LJ AND 1LD 1ZT + S4 /S5
- Refer to BRAKE ROTOR, REPLACING, 1LA, 1LB, 1LJ AND 1LD 1ZT + S4 /S5
- Coat The Contact Surfaces Between The Brake Rotor And Wheel Hub With Polycarbamide Grease:G 052 142 A2 . Refer to WHEEL, CHANGING AND MOUNTING .
12 - Brake Pad Bolt
- 5 Nm

NOTE:

Close the bleed screw and tighten to 14 Nm.

NOTE:

Before installing the brake pads, clean the brake pad bolt -arrows- and apply a thin coat of grease. Refer to Parts Information.. When doing this, do not allow any grease to get on the rubber components. Clean the rubber components of grease.
