Pinpoint Test A : The HUD (Head Up Display) Is Inoperative

- A1 CHECK THE RH (RIGHT-HAND) LOWER STEERING WHEEL SWITCH HUD BUTTON OPERATION
- Ignition ON.
- Press the RH lower steering wheel switch HUD button.
Does the HUD menu display in the IPC?
Yes GO to A4 No GO to A2 - A2 CHECK THE RH (RIGHT-HAND) LOWER STEERING WHEEL SWITCH SETTINGS BUTTON OPERATION
- Press the RH lower steering wheel switch settings button.
Does the message center menu display in the IPC?
Yes GO to A3 No DIAGNOSE the message center menu does not display. Refer to: Instrumentation, Message Center and Warning Chimes . - A3 CHECK THE RH (RIGHT-HAND) LOWER STEERING WHEEL SWITCH
- Ignition OFF.
- Remove the RH lower steering wheel switch. Refer to: Steering Wheel Multifunction Switch .
- While pressing each message center switch button, measure:
Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead
RH Lower Steering Wheel Switch (Component Side) - Pin 3
RH Lower Steering Wheel Switch (Component Side) - Pin 4Button Press Resistance Specification No Press 489-540 ohms Audio 57-63 ohms HUD 175-194 ohms
Does the RH lower steering wheel switch resistance match the specification?
Yes GO to A5 No INSTALL a new RH lower steering wheel switch. Refer to: Steering Wheel Multifunction Switch . - A4 VERIFY THE HUD (HEAD UP DISPLAY) IS SET TO HUD (HEAD UP DISPLAY) ON

NOTE: The HUD navigation can be found in the Owner's Literature.
Using the RH steering wheel HUD switch, make sure the HUD is set to HUD ON.
Is the HUD set to display HUD ON?
Yes GO to A5 No SET the HUD to HUD ON. EXPLAIN to the driver how to enable the HUD display. -
- A5 PERFORM THE NETWORK TEST FOR ALL MODULES
- Reinstall the RH lower steering wheel switch. Refer to: Steering Wheel Multifunction Switch .
- Ignition ON.
- Using a diagnostic scan tool, perform a network test.
Do all equipped modules pass the network test?
Yes GO to A6 No REFER to: Communications Network . - A6 CHECK THE GWM (GATEWAY MODULE A) DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (DTCS)
- Using a diagnostic scan tool, check the GWM Continuous Memory Diagnostic Trouble Codes (CMDTCs).
Are any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) recorded?
Yes REFER to: Communications Network . No GO to A7 - A7 PERFORM THE IPC (INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER) SELF-TEST
- Using a diagnostic scan tool, perform the IPC self-test.
Are any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) recorded?
Yes REFER to DTC Chart: Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) . No GO to A8 - A8 PERFORM THE SCCM (STEERING COLUMN CONTROL MODULE) SELF-TEST
- Using a diagnostic scan tool, perform the SCCM self-test.
Are any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) recorded?
Yes REFER to: Steering Wheel and Column Electrical Components . No GO to A9 - A9 PERFORM THE HUD (HEAD UP DISPLAY) MODULE SELF-TEST
- Using a diagnostic scan tool, perform the HUD module self-test.
- Check for recorded Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) from the HUD module self-test.
Are any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) recorded?
Yes REFER to DTC Chart: Head Up Display (HUD) . No GO to A10 - A10 PERFORM THE HUD (HEAD UP DISPLAY) MODULE CALIBRATION
- Perform the HUD module calibration. Refer to: Head Up Display (HUD) Module Calibration .
- Test the HUD operation.
Did the calibration correct the inoperative HUD display?
Yes The system is operating correctly. The concern was caused by the HUD being out of calibration. No INSTALL a new HUD module. Refer to: Head Up Display (HUD) Module .
