Fuel Tank: Removal

NOTE: If the fuel pump is operational, connect the fuel tanker hose to the engine supply hose. Connect a scan tool to the vehicle and command the fuel pump to run If the fuel pump is operational, connect the fuel tanker hose to the engine supply hose. NOTE: Removal steps in this procedure may contain installation steps.

With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. Refer to: Jacking and Lifting .
Release the fuel system pressure. Refer to:FUEL SYSTEM PRESSURE RELEASE .
Refer to: Fuel Tank Draining .
LWB shown and SWB is typical. If equipped, remove the nuts and the skid plate.
Torque: 177 lb.in (20 Nm)

On both sides. Remove the sway bar bracket nuts and let the sway bar hang down.

Remove the bolts from fuel tank support straps.
Torque: 30 lb.ft (40 Nm)

Rotate the fuel tank support straps aside. Use the General Equipment: Transmission Jack Use the General Equipment: Wooden Block

Disconnect the fuel feed and vapor tube quick release couplings. Refer to: Quick Release Coupling .

Remove the fuel tank.

If the fuel tank is being replaced, remove the fuel pump and sender unit and drain the fuel tank using the fuel tanker. If the fuel tank is being replaced, remove the fuel pump and sender unit and drain the fuel tank using the fuel tanker. Refer to: Fuel Pump and Sender Unit . Use Special Service Tool: 292-00004 Fuel Tanker 100 GPM.
