Air Conditioning (A C) Compressor Belt: Removal

NOTE: Under no circumstances should the A/C compressor belt, accessory drive belt, tensioner or pulleys be lubricated as potential damage to the belt material and tensioner damping mechanism will occur. Do not apply any fluids or belt dressing to the A/C compressor belt, accessory drive belt or pulleys.
NOTE: Removal steps in this procedure may contain installation details.
  1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. Refer to:Jacking And Lifting .
  2. Remove the accessory drive belt. Refer to: Accessory Drive Belt .
  3. If equipped, remove the underbody skid plate.

  6. NOTE: Typical application shown in the figure.

    Remove the A/C compressor belt.

    1. Turn the crankshaft pulley bolt clockwise and feed the stretchy belt tool on to the A/C compressor pulley approximately 180°.
    2. Fold the stretchy belt tool under the inside of the A/C compressor belt as shown in the figure.
    3. NOTE: After using the stretchy belt removal tool, it may be necessary to rotate the crankshaft pulley clockwise to remove the A/C compressor belt from the A/C compressor pulley.

      In one quick motion, firmly pull the stretchy belt tool and remove the A/C compressor belt.
