Oil Cooler: Removal

  1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. Refer to: Jacking and Lifting .
  2. Remove the engine appearance cover retainers, release the engine appearance cover from the rear retainers and then remove the engine appearance cover.

  3. Remove the air cleaner outlet pipe LH. Refer to: Air Cleaner Outlet Pipe LH .
  4. Remove and discard the engine oil filter. Use the General Equipment: Oil Drain Equipment.

  5. Disconnect the block heater cord.

    1. Using hose locking pliers, clamp the oil cooler coolant hoses. Use the General Equipment: Locking Pliers.
    2. Using the hose clamp remover, remove the coolant hoses. Use the General Equipment: Hose Clamp Remover/Installer.

  6. NOTE: If metal or foreign material is present in the oil cooler, mechanical concerns exist. To diagnose the mechanical concerns refer to ENGINE SYSTEM - GENERAL INFORMATION .

    Remove the retainer and the oil cooler.
