Tightening Specifications

WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.
NOTE:

Replace the aluminum bolts for the center differential housing.

-- In the housing coat the gear carrier surface with transmission fluid.

-- Clean both housing separating surfaces thoroughly. They must be free of oil and grease.

-- Using Sealing Compound AMV 188 001 02 apply sealant bead -arrow 1- evenly and not too thick on the housing separating surface.

-- Place a sealing ring round each bolt hole to prevent contact corrosion -arrow 2-.

Install the gear carrier on the transmission as follows:

-- Coat both outer ring surfaces on the gear carrier slightly with transmission oil.

-- Insert the gear carrier.

-- Place the center differential -2- on the transmission.

-- Mount the guide sleeve -4- on the center differential.

-- Install the pressure spring -3- into the center differential.

-- Press the center differential housing -B- centrally on until it makes contact with the transmission housing and hold it securely.

-- Install the steel bolts -A- and the new aluminum bolts -arrows- and fasten the center differential.

-- Install the tunnel crossmember and tighten it. Refer to OVERVIEW - SUBFRAME MOUNT .

-- Install the driveshaft. Refer to OVERVIEW - DRIVESHAFT, MOUNTED ON TRANSMISSION SIDE or OVERVIEW - DRIVESHAFT, BOLTS ON TRANSMISSION SIDE . For Sport Differential, refer to OVERVIEW - DRIVESHAFT BOLTED ON TRANSMISSION SIDE, AUDI A4 AND A5 or OVERVIEW - DRIVESHAFT, MOUNTED ON TRANSMISSION SIDE .

-- Install the driveshaft heat shield -A- and tighten the bolts -arrows- to 25 Nm, if equipped.

-- Fill transmission oil and check oil level. Refer to TRANSMISSION FLUID LEVEL, CHECKING .

-- Assemble the exhaust system align it without tension. Refer to EXHAUST PIPES/MUFFLERS (For engine code CALA), EXHAUST PIPES/MUFFLERS (For engine codes CAED, CAEB, CPMB, CPMA), or EXHAUST PIPES/MUFFLERS (for engine codes CCBA, CGXC, CTUB). .

-- Install the noise insulation. Refer to NOISE INSULATION .
