Overview - Transmission Cover

  1. Large Securing Bushing
    • For the selector shaft
    • Removing and installing. Refer to Figure.
    • Installed dimension; refer to Figure
  2. Securing Bushing
    • For the gearshift rail/shift fork
    • Removing. Refer to Figure
    • Installing. Refer to Figure
  3. Needle Bearing
    • For the side shaft bearing
    • Remove from the transmission cover using Puller - Transmission Bearing 3138
    • Always replace.
    • Installing. Refer to Figure
    • secure after installing with peen. Refer to Figure
  4. Oil Catch Tray
    • Install in the openings in the transmission cover and roller sleeves, refer to -item  6- "Roller Sleeve".
  5. Outer Race/Tapered Roller Bearing
    • For the gear wheel mounting inside the transmission cover
    • Removing. Refer to Figure
    • Installing. Refer to Figure
  6. Roller Sleeve
    • For the input shaft mounting
    • Removing. Refer to Figure
    • Installing. Refer to Figure
  7. Transmission Cover
  8. O-Ring
    • Installed only on transmissions with a cover/gearshift shaft connected to Transmission Neutral Position Sensor -G701- or closure cap.
    • Always replace.
  9. Cap
    • For the gearshift shaft connected to Transmission Neutral Position Sensor -G701- or a closure cap
    • Not present on all versions
    • Allocate according to transmission code.
    • Overview. Refer to Figure.
    • Selector shaft seal, removing and installing. Refer to Figure
    • Remove the gearshift shaft ball sleeve. Refer to Figure
    • Install the gearshift shaft ball sleeve. Refer to Figure
  10. Closure Cap
    • Not present on all versions
    • Allocate according to transmission code.
    • Replace the o-ring with a cap, use the transmission code to allocate parts.
  11. Bolt
    • 10 Nm + 45° additional turn
    • Aluminum bolts (M8; 22 mm long)
    • Always replace.
  12. Transmission Neutral Position Sensor -G701-
    • For vehicles with the Start/Stop System
    • Installed position. Refer to Figure.
    • The Transmission Neutral Position Sensor -G701- is omitted from MY 2012. The Gear Recognition Sensor -G604- is installed for this purpose, refer to -item  17- (See Figure).
    • A closure cap is installed in place of the Transmission Neutral Position Sensor -G701-
    • Allocate according to transmission code.
    • Replace the o-ring on the Transmission Neutral Position Sensor -G701- and allocate according to the transmission code.
    • Removing and installing with transmission installed is possible. Refer to COMPONENT LOCATION OVERVIEW - ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS (See figure 15).
  13. Cap
    • For the gearshift shaft without a Transmission Neutral Position Sensor -G701- or a closure cap
    • Not present on all versions
    • Allocate according to transmission code.
    • Removing and installing. Refer to Figure.
    • Overview. Refer to Figure.
    • Selector shaft seal, removing and installing. Refer to Figure
    • Remove the gearshift shaft ball sleeve. Refer to Figure
    • Install the gearshift shaft ball sleeve. Refer to Figure
  14. Bearing Bushing
    • For the 3rd/4th gear gearshift rail/shift fork
    • Removing. Refer to Figure
    • Installing. Refer to Figure
  15. Small Locking Bushing
    • For the selector shaft
    • Not installed on all versions
