Pinpoint Test Cs : The FDIM Changes Brightness
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2017 Lincoln Navigator and 2017 Ford Expedition. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
- CS1 VERIFY THE DISPLAY BRIGHTNESS CONCERN IS NOT CAUSED BY SYSTEM SETTINGS
- Ignition ON.
- Using the touchscreen, review the display dimming settings under Settings>Display.
- Test the system to verify the concern present and not caused by a display brightness setting, such as Auto Dim turned ON or OFF.
- After the reboot is complete, operate the system to verify if the concern is still present.
Is a concern present that is NOT caused by the display brightness settings?
Yes GO to CS2. No REVIEW the display brightness settings and system operation with the customer. - CS2 REBOOT THE APIM AND RECHECK THE SYSTEM OPERATION
- Simultaneously press and hold the SEEK UP and POWER buttons on the FCIM for 10 seconds. As the APIM reboot begins, the touchscreen turns black before the startup sequence begins.
- After the reboot is complete, operate the system to verify if the concern is still present.
Is the concern still present?
Yes GO to CS3. No The system is operating correctly at this time. VERIFY the customer's specific concern by duplicating the steps that were taken when the original concern was generated. - CS3 VERIFY OPERATION OF THE NETWORKED INSTRUMENT PANEL BACKLIGHTING SOURCES
- Illuminate the ambient light sensor to simulate daytime lighting conditions.
- While adjusting the instrument panel backlighting intensity up and down, inspect the FCIM and IPC.
- Cover the ambient light sensor to simulate nighttime lighting conditions.
- While adjusting the instrument panel backlighting intensity up and down, inspect the FCIM and IPC.
Does the instrument panel backlighting operate correctly?
Yes GO to CS4. No REFER to Instrument Panel and Interior Switches Illumination . - CS4 VERIFY THAT THE BCM, APIM, AND IPC PASS THE NETWORK TEST
- Using a diagnostic scan tool, perform the network test.
Did the BCM, APIM, and IPC pass the network test?
Yes GO to CS5. No REFER to Module Communications Network . - CS5 CHECK THE APIM CMDTCs
- Using a diagnostic scan tool, retrieve the APIM CMDTCs.
Are any CMDTCs present?
Yes REFER to the Accessory Protocol Interface Module (APIM) DTC Chart . No GO to CS6. - CS6 TEMPORARILY REMOVE THE POWER FROM THE APIM AND RECHECK THE SYSTEM OPERATION
- Ignition OFF.
- Disconnect: Negative Battery Cable from the battery post.
- Wait for 1 minute.
- Connect: Negative Battery Cable to the battery post.
- Ignition ON.
- Test the system to verify the concern is still present.
Is the concern still present?
Yes GO to CS7. No The system is operating correctly at this time. VERIFY the customer's specific concern by duplicating the steps that were taken when the original concern was generated. - CS7 CHECK THE LOW VOLTAGE DIFFERENTIAL SIGNALING (LVDS) CABLE FOR AN OPEN
- Ignition OFF.
- Disconnect: APIM C2383D .
- Disconnect: FDIM C2253 .
-
NOTE: Use male Flex Probe 300-08057 (.50mm) or equivalent to perform measurements at the LVDS cable connectors.
Measure:
Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead C2383D-1 C2253-4 C2383D-2 C2253-3 C2383D-3 C2253-2 C2383D-4 C2253-1 C2383D-Shield C2253-Shield
Are the resistances less than 3 ohms?
Yes GO to CS8. No INSTALL a new LVDS cable. REFER to SYNC Module [APIM] to Front Display Interface Module (FDIM) Cable . After installing a new cable, REBOOT the APIM by simultaneously pressing and holding the SEEK UP and POWER buttons on the FCIM for 10 seconds, and verify touchscreen operation. - CS8 CHECK FOR CORRECT VOLTAGE OUTPUT FROM THE APIM
- Ignition OFF.
- Connect: APIM C2383D .
- Ignition ON.
-
NOTE: Use male Flex Probe 300-08057 (.50mm) or equivalent to perform measurements at the LVDS cable connectors.
Using the multimeter mV range setting, measure the following (if necessary, refer to the multimeter's owner's manual for information on how to access the mV range):
Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead C2253-3 Ground (ensure that the LVDS cable ground is not used for this measurement)
Is the voltage between.5 and 10 millivolts?
Yes If the concern is still present after performing the FDIM hardware test, GO to CS9. No GO to CS9. - CS9 CHECK FOR CORRECT APIM OPERATION
- Ignition OFF.
- Disconnect and inspect the APIM connectors and related in-line connectors.
- Repair:
- Corrosion (clean module pins or install new connectors or terminals)
- Damaged or bent pins (install new terminals or pins)
- Pushed-out pins (install new pins as necessary)
- Reconnect the APIM connectors and related in-line connectors. Make sure they seat and latch correctly.
- Wait at least 2 minutes for the APIM to re-initialize.
- Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.
Is the concern still present?
Yes CHECK OASIS for any applicable TSBs. If a TSB exists for this concern, DISCONTINUE this test and FOLLOW TSB instructions. If no TSBs address this concern, APIM Hardware Testing . No The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by module connections. ADDRESS the root cause of any connector or pin issues.
