Pinpoint Test D : No Power In Run (Vehicles With Push Button Start)
- D1 CHECK THE VEHICLE BATTERY
- Carry out the Battery Condition Test. REFER to Battery, Mounting and Cables .
Is the battery OK?
Yes GO to D2. No DIAGNOSE the battery condition. REFER to Battery, Mounting and Cables . - D2 CHECK FOR NETWORK CONCERNSNOTE: It may be necessary to use a begin a vehicle session with the scan tool with the ignition in the OFF mode. Refer to Service Information to establish a scan tool session.
- Using a diagnostic scan tool, carry out the network test.
Does the BCM, the IPC and the RFA module pass the network test?
Yes GO to D3. No REFER to Module Communications Network . - D3 CHECK THE BCM PUSH BUTTON IGNITION SWITCH PIDs
- Using a diagnostic scan tool, view the BCM PIDs.
- Using a diagnostic scan tool, monitor the following BCM PIDs :
- Engine Start / Stop Button Circuit 1 (START_STOP_1)
- Engine Start / Stop Button Circuit 2 (START_STOP_2)
- While monitoring the PIDs, press and release the START/STOP button.
Do both PIDs indicate correctly when the START/STOP button is pressed and released?
Yes GO to D12. No VERIFY the BCM fuse 26 (5A) is OK. If OK, GO to D4. If not OK, REFER to the OEM Electrical Wiring Diagram Introduction to identify the possible cause of the circuit short. - D4 CHECK FOR VOLTAGE TO THE PUSH BUTTON IGNITION SWITCH
- Disconnect: Push Button Ignition Switch C2195 .
- Measure:
Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead C2195-4 Ground
Is the voltage greater than 11 volts?
Yes GO to D6. No GO to D5. - D5 CHECK THE PUSH BUTTON IGNITION SWITCH VOLTAGE SUPPLY CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN
- Disconnect: BCM C2280B .
Is the resistance less than 3 ohms?
Yes GO to D24. No REPAIR the circuit. - D6 CHECK THE PUSH BUTTON IGNITION SWITCH GROUND CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN
Is the voltage greater than 11 volts?
Yes GO to D7. No REPAIR the circuit. - D7 CHECK THE START/STOP INPUT 1 FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE
- Disconnect: BCM C2280B .
- Measure:
Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead C2195-1 Ground
Is any voltage present?
Yes GO to D8. No GO to D10. - D8 ISOLATE THE RFA MODULE
- Disconnect: RFA Module C4392D .
- Measure:
Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead C2195-1 Ground
Is any voltage present?
Yes GO to D9. No GO to D23. - D9 CHECK THE START/STOP INPUT 1 CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE
- Disconnect: PCM C175B .
- Measure:
Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead C2195-1 Ground
Is any voltage present?
Yes REPAIR the circuit. No GO to D22. - D10 CHECK THE START/STOP INPUT 2 CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND
- Measure the resistance between the C2195-6 and ground
Is the resistance greater than 10, 000 ohms?
Yes GO to D11. No REPAIR the circuit. - D11 CHECK THE START/STOP INPUT 2 CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN
Is the resistance less than 3 ohms?
Yes INSTALL a new push button ignition switch. REFER to Start/Stop Switch .TEST the system for normal operation. If the concern is still present, GO to D24. No REPAIR the circuit. - D12 CHECK THE RFA MODULE START/STOP INPUT CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN
- Disconnect: RFA Module C4392D .
- Measure:
Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead C4392D-21 Ground
- Press the START/STOP button while monitoring the voltage reading.
Is the voltage greater than 11 volts when the START/STOP button is pressed?
Yes GO to D13. No REPAIR the circuit. - D13 CHECK THE PATS
- Connect: RFA Module C4392D .
- Press the START/STOP button while monitoring message center.
Does the No Key Detected message display when the START/STOP button is pressed?
Yes REFER to Anti-Theft Passive Anti-Theft System (PATS) . No GO to D14. - D14 CHECK THE RUN/START RELAY
- Ignition OFF.
- Disconnect: RUN/START Relay.
- Substitute a known good relay.
- Ignition ON.
- Check the operation of the front blower motor.
Does the front blower motor operate?
Yes REMOVE the known good relay. INSTALL a new RUN/START relay. No REMOVE the known good relay. GO to D15. - D15 CHECK THE RUN/START RELAY COIL VOLTAGE SUPPLY CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN
- Ignition OFF.
Is the voltage greater than 11 volts?
Yes GO to D16. No VERIFY BJB fuse 42 (5A) is OK. If OK, REPAIR the circuit. If not OK, REFER to the OEM Electrical Wiring Diagram Introduction to identify the possible cause of the circuit short. - D16 CHECK THE RUN/START RELAY BATTERY SUPPLY CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN
Is the voltage greater than 11 volts?
Yes GO to D17. No VERIFY BJB fuse 12 (40A) is OK. If OK, REPAIR the circuit. If not OK, REFER to the OEM Electrical Wiring Diagram Introduction to identify the possible cause of the circuit short. - D17 CHECK THE BCM RUN/START RELAY CONTROL FOR A SHORT
Does the test lamp illuminate?
Yes GO to D18. No GO to D19. - D18 CHECK THE BCM RUN/START RELAY CONTROL CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND
- Disconnect: BCM C2280F .
Does the test lamp illuminate?
Yes REPAIR the circuit. No GO to D24. - D19 CHECK THE BCM RUN/START RELAY CONTROL OPERATION
- Ignition ON.
Does the test lamp illuminate?
Yes REPAIR the RUN/START relay output circuit for an open. No GO to D20. - D20 CHECK THE BCM RUN/START RELAY CONTROL CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE
- Ignition OFF.
- Disconnect: BCM C2280F .
- Ignition ON.
- Ignition ON.
Is any voltage present?
Yes REPAIR the circuit. No GO to D21. - D21 CHECK THE BCM RUN/START RELAY CONTROL CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN
- Ignition OFF.
- Measure:
Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead RUN/START relay, cavity 2 C2280F-18
Is the resistance less than 3 ohms?
Yes GO to D24. No REPAIR the circuit. - D22 CHECK FOR CORRECT PCM OPERATION
- Disconnect and inspect all PCM connectors.
- Repair:
- corrosion (install new connector or terminals - clean module pins)
- damaged or bent pins - install new terminals/pins
- pushed-out pins - install new pins as necessary
- Reconnect the PCM connectors. Make sure they seat and latch correctly.
- Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.
Is the concern still present?
Yes CHECK OASIS for any applicable TSBs. If a TSB exists for this concern, DISCONTINUE this test and FOLLOW TSB instructions. If no TSBs address this concern, INSTALL a new PCM. REFER to Electronic Engine Controls . No The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by module connections. ADDRESS the root cause of any connector or pin issues. - D23 CHECK FOR CORRECT RFA MODULE OPERATION
- Disconnect and inspect all RFA module connectors.
- Repair:
- corrosion (install new connector or terminals - clean module pins)
- damaged or bent pins - install new terminals/pins
- pushed-out pins - install new pins as necessary
- Reconnect the RFA module connectors. Make sure they seat and latch correctly.
- Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.
Is the concern still present?
Yes CHECK OASIS for any applicable TSBs. If a TSB exists for this concern, DISCONTINUE this test and FOLLOW TSB instructions. If no TSBs address this concern, INSTALL a new RFA module. REFER to Multifunction Electronic Modules . No The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by module connections. ADDRESS the root cause of any connector or pin issues. - D24 CHECK FOR CORRECT BCM OPERATION
- Disconnect and inspect all BCM connectors.
- Repair:
- corrosion (install new connector or terminals - clean module pins)
- damaged or bent pins - install new terminals/pins
- pushed-out pins - install new pins as necessary
- Reconnect the BCM connectors. Make sure they seat and latch correctly.
- Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.
Is the concern still present?
Yes CHECK OASIS for any applicable TSBs. If a TSB exists for this concern, DISCONTINUE this test and FOLLOW TSB instructions. If no TSBs address this concern, BCM Hardware Testing . No The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by module connections. ADDRESS the root cause of any connector or pin issues.
