PINPOINT TEST B : The Courtesy Lamps Do Not Illuminate With The Liftgate Or Liftgate Glass Open

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2016 Ford Expedition. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

  1. B1 CHECK THE COURTESY LAMP OPERATION FROM ANY DOOR

NOTE: Make sure that the dark car feature is not enabled in the BCM. The dark car feature disables activation of courtesy lamps due to a door unlock, door ajar or removing the key from the ignition cylinder (vehicles without puch buton start). The feature can be disabled using a scan tool.

    • Ignition ON.
    • Open any door and observe the courtesy lamps.

    Do the courtesy lamps illuminate?

    Yes  GO to  B2.
No  GO to Pinpoint Test A .
  2. B2 CHECK THE LIFTGATE TYPE

    • Identify the vehicle liftgate type

Is the vehicle equipped with a power liftgate?

    Yes  GO to  B3.
    No  GO to  B8.
  3. B3 CHECK THE LIFTGATE GLASS AJAR PID

    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, view the LTM PIDs.
    • Monitor the LTM liftgate glass ajar switch (GLASS_POS) PID while opening and closing the liftgate glass.

Does the liftgate glass ajar switch PID value agree with the liftgate glass positions?

    Yes  GO to  B6.
    No  GO to  B4.
  4. B4 CHECK THE LIFTGATE GLASS AJAR SWITCH (POWER LIFTGATE)

    • Ignition OFF.
    • Disconnect: Liftgate Glass Latch C4040 .
    • Ignition ON.

    Do the courtesy lamps illuminate?

Yes  INSTALL a new liftgate glass latch. REFER to Handles, Locks, Latches and Entry Systems .
    No  GO to  B5.
  5. B5 CHECK THE LIFTGATE GLASS AJAR SWITCH SIGNAL CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND (POWER LIFTGATE)

    • Ignition OFF.
    • Measure:
Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

  12. B12 CHECK FOR CORRECT BCM OPERATION

    • Disconnect the BCM connectors.
    • Repair:
      • corrosion (install new connector or terminals - clean module pins)
      • corrosion (install new connector or terminals - clean module pins)
      • pushed-out pins - install new pins as necessary
    • Reconnect the BCM connectors and make sure they seat and latch correctly.
    • Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.

    Is the concern still present?

Yes  CHECK OASIS for any applicable TSBs. If a TSB exists for this concern, discontinue this test and follow TSB instructions. If no TSBs address this concern, Refer to BCM Hardware Testing ..
