Removal And Installation

NOTE: Driver seat shown, passenger seat similar.

All seats 

  1. 1.

    Remove the front seat. Refer to Seat - Front .

Navigator front seat 

  1. 2.

    Remove the side shield cover from the cushion side shield.

    1. 1.

      Release the side shield cover retainers.

    1. 2.

      Disconnect the electrical connectors.

  1. 3.

    Remove the cushion side shield front screw.

  1. 4.

    NOTE: For installation, hook the seat cushion cover flap at the rear outboard corner to the cushion side shield.

    Remove the cushion side shield.

    1. 1.

      Remove the screws.

    1. 2.

      Release the pin-type retainer from the seat track.

    1. 3.

      Release the seat cushion cover from the cushion side shield.

Expedition front seat 

  1. 5.

    If equipped, remove the manual lumbar knob.

  1. 6.

    If equipped, remove the recliner handle.

    1. 1.

      Position the recliner handle upward.

    1. 2.

      Remove the screw.

    1. 3.

      Release the locking tab.

    Remove the side shield cover front screw.

  1. 8.

    NOTE: Side shield cover with a seat control switch, manual lumbar and recliner shown, others similar.

    Remove the side shield cover.

    1. 1.

      Pull forward on the front of the side shield cover to release the front retainers.

    1. 2.

      Pull outward on the side shield cover to release the side retainers.

    1. 3.

      Pull forward to release the side shield cover rear guides.

    1. 4.

      If equipped, disconnect the electrical connector(s).

  1. 9.

    NOTE: For installation, hook the seat cushion cover flap at the rear outboard corner to the cushion side shield.

    Remove the cushion side shield.

    1. 1.

      Remove the screws.

    1. 2.

      Release the pin-type retainer from the seat track.

    1. 3.

      Release the seat cushion cover from the cushion side shield.

All seats 

  1. 10.

    Release the backrest cover lower retainers.

    Release the hook and loop fastener and position the cushion cover aside.

  1. 12.

    Remove the pin-type retainer and position the outboard side of the cushion cover upward.

    Position the inboard side of the seat cushion upward.

  1. 14.

    Position the safety belt buckle wire harness aside.

    1. 1.

      Disconnect the safety belt buckle electrical connector.

    1. 2.

      Release the wire harness connector locator.

    1. 3.

      Release the wire harness locator.

  1. 15.

    Release the J-clips and remove the cushion cover and foam as an assembly.

  1. 16.

    NOTE: Use care when separating the cushion cover from the hook-and-loop strips or the hook-and-loop strips may be torn from the cushion foam pad.
    NOTE: This step is only necessary when installing a new component.

    Remove the seat cushion cover from the foam.

      Invert the seat cushion cover.

    1. 2.

      Remove the hog rings.

    1. 3.

      Release the seat cushion cover hook and loop fastener.

  1. 17.

    To install, reverse the removal procedure.
