Determining New Shim S 4, Overview

This procedure must be carried out when replacing the following components:
- Bearing plate. Refer to Determining thickness of shim when replacing bearing plate
- Hollow shaft. Refer to Determining thickness of shim when replacing hollow shaft
The procedure restores the required preload of the taper roller bearings for the drive pinion and hollow shaft.
1 - Shim S4
2 - Bearing plate
3 - Transmission housing
4 - Hollow shaft
5 - Taper roller bearing of drive pinion/hollow shaft
6 - Pinion shaft
a - Bearing plate housing depth
b - Dimension from drive pinion head to shoulder of taper roller bearing on hollow shaft
- Taper roller bearing (drive pinion/hollow shaft) pre-tensioned to 10 Nm
