Rear Lid, Adjusting, AVANT: Notes

Gauge - Gap Adjustment 3371

Gap Dimensions

Dimension -A- = 3.5 mm
Dimension -B- = 4.5 mm
Dimension -C- = 5.0 mm
Dimension -D- = 3.5 mm
Dimension -E- = 2.2 mm all around
Make sure the gap is parallel to the body.

NOTE:

The gas-filled struts must be attached before installing a new rear lid.

Adjusting with Striker Pin

NOTE:

Before adjusting, install the adjusting buffer on the rear lid side completely. Refer to Figure.

-- Remove the rear lid end panel trim panel. Refer to COMPONENT LOCATION OVERVIEW - REAR LID TRIM PANELS

-- Loosen the combination nuts -1- and -3-, striker pin -2- must be adjustable.

-- Note different versions.

-- Loosen the combination screws. It must still be possible to move the striker pin -2- with the closing aid motor -1-.

-- For easier installation, there are markings on rear cross panel you can use to adjust the striker pin.

CAUTION:

To adjust rear lid, closing aid motor must be in >>lid closed<< position (lower end position).
Striker pin cannot be installed in position not visible in drawing (upper end position) -1- because rear lid can contact block when closing and be damaged.
Do not use the closing assist motor to adjust rear lid.

-- Install the upper section of the adjusting buffer on the rear lid side completely before adjusting the rear lid. Refer to Figure.

-- Tighten the nuts -1- and -3- hand-tight.

-- Close rear lid and align with body contour.

-- Rear lid latch must be engaged in main detent (second retainer) during this.

-- Open rear lid in this position and tighten the nuts -1- and -3- to the tightening specification. Refer to "OVERVIEW - REAR LID, AVANT" -item 13- Nut (See Fig 5).

-- If the same striker pin is reinstalled, mark this location before removing.

NOTE:

Striker pin with closing aid can only be installed in >>lid closed<< position, same as delivery condition for a new part.

If the same rear lid catch is going to be installed again, open the rear lid and lock the rear lid latch or the rotary latch with a screwdriver.

Closing aid runs in >>lid closed<< position = basic position.

Now remove the connector from closing aid and the rear lid latch can be opened again by activating grip piece in rear lid.

-- Tighten nuts -1- slightly.

-- Close rear lid and align with body contour.

-- Rear lid latch must be engaged in main detent (second retainer) during this.

-- Open the rear lid in this position and tighten the nuts -1- to the tightening specification. Refer to "OVERVIEW - REAR LID, AVANT" -item 13- Nut (See Figure).

-- Tighten the screws -2- for the stop on the body -1- to 8 Nm. Refer to -item 11- Bolt (See Figure or Fig 7).

-- Turn adjusting buffer -arrow- until closed rear lid with stop buffer on rear lid side makes contact with stop.

-- Check whether rear lid still closes easily, repeat adjustment at adjusting buffer if necessary.

-- If rear lid is difficult to close, tighten the adjusting buffer slightly.
