-- Press torque converter hub through shaft seal as far as first stop.

-- Lightly press torque converter inwards and turn until slots on torque converter hub engage in drive lugs on ATF pump gear and torque converter slides in a noticeable distance.

-- If this happens, pull the torque converter out 5 mm. This will correct the position of the sealing lip -arrow-.

When converter is inserted correctly, distance -a- between contact surfaces on threaded holes and on converter and torque converter bell housing contact surfaces is at least 19 mm.

-- Always use new bolts to secure torque converter to drive plate.

CAUTION:

If the converter is not properly installed, the drive lugs on the converter and the ATF pump will be severely damaged when the transmission is attached to the engine.

Note the following when installation the transmission.

CAUTION:

Danger of causing damage to the torque converter drive plate or the ATF pump.

  • Before and during fastening the engine/transmission flange bolts, check that the torque converter can still be turned behind the drive plate. If the converter still does not turn, then assume it is installed incorrectly.

Danger of leaks on the torque converter seal.

  • The covers -items 3 though 8- prevent dust and dirt from getting into the torque converter bell housing. Install the covers if necessary. Refer to -item  3- (Covers).

-- After installation the transmission. Refer to ATF LEVEL, CHECKING AND FILLING .
